Chapter 5 - The Thunder in the Sky

The noise started as a distant, low rumble, vibrating through the floorboards of the declining mansion.

Within seconds, the thumping grew deafening. Rattling the floor, shaking the dust from the crystal chandelier hanging above the foyer, the sound rattled the windowpanes so violently it felt like a storm was passing directly over the house.

"What on earth is that?" Mark muttered, standing up and rushing toward the floor-to-ceiling glass doors that overlooked the back lawn.

Rachel followed him, shieldings her eyes from the sudden gust of wind whipping through the manicured patio furniture outside.

A massive, sleek, matte-black private helicopter—a state-of-the-art Eurocopter Airbus—was descending directly onto the center lawn of Crestview Estate. The powerful downwash of its twin rotors blew away dead leaves, knocked over patio chairs, and whipped the overgrown grass into a violent fury.

"Is that... is that the bank?" Rachel gasped, her face turning pale as paper. "Are they repossessing the property already?"

"The bank doesn't show up in a twelve-million-dollar private chopper, Rachel," Mark said, his voice trembling as he pressed his face against the glass.

The helicopter touched down with featherlight precision. The rotors slowly whined down, their thunderous roar fading into a smooth, mechanical hum.

The side door of the aircraft slid open automatically.

First, two men in tailored black suits and earpieces stepped out, scanning the perimeter with professional vigilance. They deployed a small set of steps.

Then, a woman stepped out.

She wore a crisp, bespoke ivory suit that caught the sunlight, polished Italian leather heels, and black sunglasses. Her posture was commanding, radiating an aura of undeniable authority and vast wealth.

Behind her followed two executive assistants carrying leather briefcases and legal binders.

My father pushed his wheelchair closer to the glass doors, squinting his clouded eyes. "Who is that? Who authorized someone to land on our property?"

The woman took off her sunglasses and looked up toward the house.

My heart swelled with a pride so immense it nearly brought me to my knees.

It was Lily.
