Chapter 6 - The Woman in the Tailored Suit

The heavy glass doors slid open, and Lily stepped into the living room of Crestview Estate.

The silence that fell over the room was absolute.

Mark’s mouth hung open. Rachel froze mid-step, her eyes darting from Lily’s pristine clothes to the helicopter sitting on her back lawn. My father stared at his granddaughter as if he were seeing a ghost.

Lily didn't look at them right away. She walked straight past Mark, straight past Rachel, and walked up to me. A soft, warm smile broke across her face.

"Hi, Mom," she said gently, leaning in to give me a loving hug. "Sorry I’m late. Traffic from the airport was annoying, so I just had my pilot drop me off in the yard."

"You... you landed a helicopter in my yard?" Rachel squeaked, her voice octave higher than normal. "Who do you think you are? What is the meaning of this?"

Lily turned slowly to face her aunt. The warm smile disappeared, replaced by an expression of cool, terrifying indifference.

"I am the person who bought your mortgage from the bank three hours ago," Lily said smoothly.

Rachel gasped, clutching her throat. "What?"

One of Lily’s assistants stepped forward, opened a sleek leather briefcase, and pulled out a stack of heavy, official legal documents stamped with blue wax seals.

"As of 9:00 AM this morning," Lily explained, taking the documents and holding them up, "Aegis Global Real Estate—a subsidiary of my venture firm—purchased the primary note, the secondary liens, and the total defaulted debt of Crestview Estate directly from First National Bank. The foreclosure auction is canceled."

"You... you bought my house?" Rachel whispered, her knees visibly trembling. "How? With what money? You’re just... you’re Claire’s daughter!"

"I am the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Aegis Innovations," Lily said, her voice ringing clearly through the room. "My company is valued at four point two billion dollars. I personally own sixty percent of the equity."

The words hit the room like a physical blow.

My father’s head snapped up. "Four... four billion?"

Mark stumbled backward, collapsing onto the sofa, staring at Ethan, who looked utterly humiliated, shrinking into his hoodie.

"You called me average, Grandfather," Lily said, turning her sharp gaze to the frail old man in the wheelchair. "You told my mother that Ethan was gifted, and that I didn't have a future. You tried to force my mother to steal eighty-four thousand dollars from me to pay for Ethan’s life."

My father opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out. The regret and shock in his eyes were suffocating.

"I didn't take a single loan," Lily continued, stepping closer to Rachel. "I built an empire on the very brain you dismissed. And now, Aunt Rachel... this house belongs to me. Every brick, every tile, every blade of grass outside."

Rachel burst into tears, dropping to her knees right in front of Lily. "Oh, thank God! Lily, sweetie! You saved us! You saved the family home! I knew you were brilliant! I always knew it!"

Lily stepped back, avoiding Rachel’s desperate hands.

"I didn't save you, Aunt Rachel," Lily said coldly. "I bought an asset. And if you want to keep living here, you are going to sign my terms."
