Chapter 9 - The Legacy Restored

A month later, I officially sold the house where the horror had taken place. I couldn't bear to keep the property, nor did I want its dark memory hanging over our lives.
With the proceeds from the sale, I established the Sophie Stanley Foundation for At-Risk Youth—a non-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency housing, medical care, and legal support for neglected children across the Pacific Northwest.

"Look, Grandpa," she said, holding up the damp paper. "That's you, and that's me."

I took the painting, examining the bright, bold strokes. There were no dark attics in her picture, no hidden corners, no tears. Just light, warmth, and home.
"It's the most beautiful painting I've ever seen, Sophie," I said, kissing the top of her head.
