Chapter 10 - The New Beginning

A year later.
My garden was thriving. The basil was taller than ever, and Noah was helping me pick tomatoes for our Sunday salad.
He was eleven now. He was taller, stronger, and more confident than I’d ever seen him.
Daniel visited every other weekend. They went to the park, they played catch, and slowly, the boy was beginning to trust the man again.
I sat on the porch, watching them. I had done my job. I had taught, I had protected, and I had ensured that the most important lesson—that you are never alone as long as you have the courage to stand for yourself—had been learned.
I was sixty-nine now, and I had never felt more at peace. My grandson was safe, my son was finding his way, and the storm had finally passed, leaving a quiet, beautiful garden in its wake.
