Chapter 6 - The Shattered Glass

Adrian shrieked in pain, dropping his revolver as blood welled up around the pen. He stumbled backward, clutching his neck.
"Shoot them!" he roared, his voice gargled with rage. "Kill them all!"
Before the guards could raise their weapons, a deafening crash echoed through the warehouse as a heavy industrial forklift smashed directly through the corrugated metal side wall of the building.
The heavy steel forks caught two of the guards, pinning them against a row of shipping crates.
The driver of the forklift—a burly, bearded man in a stained grease jumpsuit—shouted over the roar of the engine. "Get in the back! Move!"
It was Martha’s brother, the warehouse mechanic who had been quietly helping Anna survive for six months.
Julian didn't hesitate. He lunged across the concrete, tackled the remaining armed guard to the ground, and snatched the fallen submachine gun. He fired a rapid burst into the ceiling, sending sparks and concrete dust showering down onto the attackers.
"Victoria! Grab Anna!" Julian yelled, maintaining suppressive fire.
Victoria and the mechanic lifted Anna’s frail body off the gurney, wrapping her in heavy canvas blankets, while Lily grabbed the medical bag containing her remaining intravenous drip. They pulled Anna onto the flatbed of the heavy industrial truck parked behind the broken wall.
Adrian was on his knees, blood soaking his pristine white shirt, his face contorted in monstrous agony. He reached for his gun on the floor, his eyes locked onto Victoria as she climbed into the passenger cab of the truck.
"You won't... get out of the city..." Adrian choked out, spitting blood onto the concrete. "I own... everything!"

"You own nothing, Adrian," Victoria shouted over the roar of the diesel engine. "You are just a thief in an expensive suit!"
The mechanic slammed the truck into gear, the heavy tires spinning on the wet concrete before biting into the asphalt, smashing through the chain-link perimeter fence and roaring out into the pouring rain.
