Chapter 5 - Flames of Vengeance
The mercenary’s threat didn't make Alessandro flinch. His eyes locked onto the man with terrifying calm.
"I’m going to give you three seconds to drop that detonator," Alessandro said, his tone chillingly smooth.
"Ha! You think you hold the cards here, Don?" The mercenary raised his thumb to press the switch.
BANG!
A sniper shot echoed from the shadows behind the catwalk. The heavy round shattered the mercenary’s wrist. The remote dropped from his hand, falling through the air. Marco lunged forward like a panther, catching the detonator inches before it hit the stone floor.
Before the remaining guards could react, Alessandro’s team opened fire, clearing the room in less than two minutes.
Alessandro fired three round bursts directly into the iron lock of the cell door and kicked it open. He rushed inside and pulled Isabella into his arms, squeezing her so tightly it felt as if he were trying to merge her into his very soul.
"Are you hurt? Did they touch you?" he whispered furiously, pressing desperate kisses onto her hair and forehead.
Isabella sobbed uncontrollably, clutching his tactical vest. "I'm sorry... Alessandro, I'm so sorry! I tried to protect you... Our baby... where is our baby...?"
"She’s safe. Lily is at the mansion with Dr. Ricci and little Emma," Alessandro reassured her, cupping her cheeks. "I know everything now, Isabella. Dominic forced you into this."
Isabella wept as she explained how Dominic had threatened to assassinate Alessandro four months ago unless she vanished. Dominic had forged the breakup letter to break Alessandro's spirit. After she gave birth in captivity, Dominic intended to steal the baby to force Alessandro’s surrender, but Elena—the maid assigned to watch her—had risked her life to escape with the child.

"We’re going home," Alessandro murmured, scooping her up into his arms. "It’s over."
However, as their convoy approached the Romano estate at dawn, a massive pillar of black smoke was rising into the sky. The main house was on fire.
