Chapter 10 - The True Value of Wealth

One year later.

The summer sun beamed down brightly on the lush green lawns of the Carter-Collins Estate in the northern hills.

The wide stone patio was decorated with white rose arches, fairy lights, and tables piled high with delicious food, cake, and fresh flowers.

Friends, neighbors from Oak Street, former laundry workers, and city officials gathered on the lawn, celebrating a glorious afternoon.

At the edge of the lawn stood Ethan Carter, wearing a crisp white linen shirt, holding a glass of iced tea. Beside him stood Sarah, breathtaking in a self-designed pastel blue summer dress, her dark hair pinned back with pearl hairclips.

In the middle of the lawn, eight-year-old Emily and six-year-old Maya were running through the grass, playing fetch with a golden retriever puppy Ethan had given them for Christmas.

On Ethan's desk inside the estate's study, sitting prominently beside his laptop, was the original cardboard box. But it was no longer empty—inside sat five brand-new, beautifully crafted miniature mannequins displaying Emily's latest clothing designs, which were already being sold in high-end boutiques across the country.

"What are you thinking about?" Sarah asked softly, sliding her hand into Ethan's, her fingers interlacing with his.

Ethan looked out at the children laughing in the sunshine, then down at the beautiful woman standing beside him, her wedding ring sparkling softly in the sunlight.

They had been married three months ago in a quiet, private ceremony on the estate's rose garden—a celebration of love, resilience, and second chances.

"I was thinking about that Tuesday at the bank," Ethan smiled, bringing Sarah's hand to his lips and pressing a gentle kiss against her knuckles. "I was sitting in that chair, reviewing a forty-million-dollar acquisition report, thinking I was the most powerful man in the city."

"And then a barefoot little girl walked in," Sarah laughed quietly.

"And she showed me that I was completely bankrupt," Ethan agreed softly, his eyes full of love. "Until she gave me a reason to live."

At that moment, Emily came running across the lawn, her cheeks rosy, holding a bright yellow sunflower she had picked from the garden.

"Mommy! Ethan! Look!" Emily shouted happily, holding the flower up to them.

Ethan crouched down, taking the flower with a big smile. "It's beautiful, Emily. Just like you."

Emily threw her arms around Ethan's neck, pressing her soft cheek against his. "I love you, Dad."

Ethan froze for a fraction of a second—it was the first time she had called him 'Dad'. A profound wave of emotion rushed through his chest, bringing warm, happy tears to his eyes.

He held her tighter, pressing a long kiss to her forehead. "I love you too, my sweet girl. More than all the money in the world."

The sun set slowly over the rolling hills, casting a warm, golden glow over the estate, where laughter, love, and a bright, endless future echoed across the quiet evening.
