Chapter 10 - The Balance Sheet of Forever

Two years later, the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in downtown Ashford Bay was filled with the soft strains of a string quartet, the murmur of high-society elites, and the genuine laughter of people who had finally found peace.

It was their wedding day.

There were no mob bosses, no frantic escapes, and no ledgers filled with stolen fortunes. Just friends, colleagues, and a newly restructured corporate empire that operated strictly within the bounds of the law—mostly.

Elara stood before the grand mirror in the bridal suite, adjusting the straps of her sweeping white lace gown. She looked at her reflection, marveling at the woman staring back. The terrified girl who had crawled under a mafia boss’s table to escape a nightmare was gone. In her place stood a woman who owned her power, her future, and her heart.

The door opened quietly, and Silas walked in.

He wore a classic black tuxedo, his dark hair neatly styled, the silver threading at his temples catching the light. He stopped dead in his tracks, staring at her with an expression of such raw, worshipful devotion that it took her breath away.

"You take my breath away," Silas whispered, crossing the room to stand before her. He gently took her hands in his, kissing her knuckles. "Every single day, you manage to take my breath away."

"You clean up nice for a reformed criminal," she teased, adjusting his lapel.

"I told you," Silas smiled, pulling her flush against his chest, his arms wrapping around her waist with possessive tenderness. "I’m a very fast learner when I find something worth keeping."

Downstairs, the guests were waiting. The future was unwritten, filled with board meetings, quiet nights by the fireplace, and the unbreakable bond of two people who had survived the dark and built a kingdom in the light.

As they walked out of the suite together toward the music and the light, Elara knew one thing for certain:

Some ledgers weren't meant to be balanced. Some debts could only be paid in a lifetime of love.
