Chapter 7 - The Viper’s Nest

Two days later, the war finally came to their doorstep.

Don Victor Marcone—the aging, ruthless patriarch of the rival Italian syndicate—didn't send enforcers this time. He sent an invitation.

A sleek black envelope delivered directly to the Velvet Tide, embossed with a silver viper. Inside was a handwritten note requesting a parley at Marcone’s private estate on the north side of the bay.

"It’s a trap," Teddy said, standing over Silas’s desk as they reviewed the security layout of Marcone’s compound. "Marcone knows he lost the shipping routes. He’s desperate. If you walk into his house, you’re walking into a firing squad."

"If I don't go, he escalates," Silas replied coldly, signing off on a new shipment manifest. "He’ll target civilian businesses, innocent people. I end this tonight."

"Then I’m coming with you," Elara said, stepping out of the adjoining private study. She had spent the last forty-eight hours analyzing Marcone’s corporate shell companies, cross-referencing public tax records with underground real estate transactions.

Silas looked up, his jaw tightening. "No."

"Silas, listen to me," she insisted, walking over to the desk and slamming a thick folder down in front of him. "Marcone isn't just funding his syndicate through shipping drugs and contraband. He’s laundering eighty percent of his capital through a legitimate real estate conglomerate called Vanguard Holdings. If you walk in there with guns, it’s a bloodbath. But if you walk in there with this—" she tapped the folder—"you take away his money, his offshore accounts, and his legal immunity in one stroke."

Teddy stared at the folder, his eyes widening. "Boss... she’s right. Marcone’s entire legal defense fund is tied up in those properties. If we freeze those assets through federal channels before midnight, his own capos will turn on him for bankrupting them."

Silas looked from the folder up to Elara, a mixture of awe and fierce pride burning in his eyes.

"You hacked federal treasury databases?" Silas asked, a faint, disbelieving smirk touching his lips.

"Let’s just say I have friends in high-compliance audit firms who owe me favors," Elara lied smoothly, though the truth was she was simply a genius with a terminal.

Silas stood up, walking around the desk. He took her face in his hands, staring down at her with an intensity that made the room vanish.

"If we do this," Silas said softly, "we don't just win a turf war. We destroy them completely. But it means you have to come with me into the lion's den. Because I won't let you out of my sight."

"I wouldn't have it any other way," Elara whispered.
