Chapter 4 - The Shadow of Vincent

Dominic rented out the entire top floor of the local inn overlooking the harbor. He refused to leave Harbor Light, but he also refused to let Clara and the children stay in the unprotected apartment above the café. Within hours, ten heavily armed Romano security guards were stationed around the perimeter, blending into the quiet Maine town.
That evening, after Noah and Lily had fallen asleep in the inn’s luxury suite, Dominic and Clara sat on the balcony, watching the rain finally clear, revealing a starlit Atlantic.
"You can't stay here forever, Dominic," Clara said, wrapping a blanket around her shoulders. "The townspeople are already talking. They know you aren't a tourist."
"I’m not leaving you unprotected," Dominic replied, sipping a glass of bourbon. "My investigators just intercepted a burner phone transmission in Boston. Elena knows I found you."
Clara froze. "Elena? How?"
"Vincent has eyes on my travel logs. The moment my SUV left Boston headed north, he knew I was on to something," Dominic said, his jaw tightening. "Elena is panicked. If you come back, her lie is exposed, and she loses her standing with the family associates she’s been courting. She’s desperate."

Suddenly, Dominic’s phone vibrated. It was a text from his lead enforcer, Marco. “Boss, we have movement on the state line. Two vehicles registered to Vincent’s front company just crossed into Maine. They’re heavily armed. They’re tracking your GPS.”
Dominic stood up immediately, his eyes flashing with lethal intent. He looked down at Clara. "Get the children. We’re moving. Now."
