Chapter 10 - The Angel’s Light

A year later, on a warm Christmas morning, snow fell gently over the Marblehead estate.

Inside the grand living room, a twenty-foot Christmas tree stood decorated in silver, gold, and warm amber lights. Dozens of brightly wrapped presents spilled out across the plush white rug.

The room was filled with warmth, music, and the delicious smell of fresh cinnamon rolls and hot cocoa prepared by Rosa and Evelyn.

Noah, now eight years old, was excitedly assembling a complex robotics set near the fireplace, while Lily was happily showing Marco—who had stopped by as a beloved family uncle—her new set of professional painting canvases.

Sitting on the large, comfortable velvet sofa near the glowing fire was Evelyn.

She wore a soft red velvet dress. Draped across her lap was a soft blue blanket.

Nestled safely in her arms was a three-month-old baby girl with dark curls and bright, sparkling grey eyes—Isabella Evelyn Moretti.

Adrian walked over, holding two mugs of steaming hot chocolate. He set the mugs on the coffee table and sat down beside Evelyn on the sofa, gently wrapping his arm around her shoulders.

He leaned down, looking at his newborn daughter sleeping peacefully against Evelyn’s chest.

“She looks just like you,” Adrian whispered, his eyes full of tenderness as he gently stroked the baby’s tiny cheek with his finger.

Evelyn smiled softly, looking from the baby in her arms to Noah and Lily laughing by the Christmas tree, and finally to the incredible man sitting beside her.

She remembered the dark, freezing day in the conservatory when the sniper’s red dot had appeared on Noah’s chest. She remembered the fear, the pain, and the overwhelming feeling that her life was ending on that cold marble floor.

She had taken a bullet to save two innocent children.

And in return, she had been given an entire universe of love, protection, and family.

“What are you thinking about?” Adrian asked gently, kissing her cheek.

Evelyn rested her head on his broad shoulder, watching the snow fall peacefully outside the high arched windows, casting a magical, golden light over their home.

“I was thinking about what Noah said to me after I woke up in the hospital,” Evelyn whispered, a serene, breathtaking smile illuminating her face.

Adrian smiled, tightening his arm around her. “What did he say?”

“He said angels don't have wings anymore,” Evelyn murmured softly, holding her baby close while her husband and children filled the room with warmth and laughter. “They just look like regular people who stay when everyone else leaves. And I’m so glad I stayed.”

Adrian leaned down, pressing his lips to hers in a slow, deep, infinitely loving kiss as the snow fell softly over their haven of peace—forever healed, forever safe, and forever bound by an unyielding love that no shadow could ever touch again.
