Chapter 6 - The Setup

Garrett tore through the city streets, running red lights, his tires screaming as he pushed the SUV to its absolute limits. Within fifteen minutes, he drifted around the corner of his suburban neighborhood, his headlights cutting through the darkness.
The black SUV was still there, parked under the shadow of a large oak tree.
Garrett didn't slow down. He accelerated, intentionally slamming his heavy corporate vehicle directly into the front bumper of the black SUV, pinning it against the tree with a deafening crunch of metal and shattering glass.
Before the airbags could fully deflate, Garrett was out of his vehicle. A man in a tactical jacket scrambled out of the passenger side of the pinned SUV, reaching for a concealed firearm. Garrett closed the distance like a shadow, grabbing the man’s wrist, twisting it until the bone popped, and throwing him face-first into the asphalt.
The driver of the SUV tried to flee, but two Vance security vehicles roared around the corner, blocking the escape route. Four heavily armed elite guards, handpicked by Garrett, jumped out with rifles drawn, instantly securing the perimeter.
Garrett rushed into his house, kicking the front door open. "Lily! Mrs. Gable!"
The bathroom door unlocked, and Lily flew out, throwing her small arms around Garrett’s neck, sobbing into his shoulder. "Daddy! I was so scared, there were bad men outside!"
Garrett held her tight, kissing the top of her head, his eyes burning with tears. "I’ve got you, baby. You’re safe. Daddy’s here. I promise you, no one is ever going to scare you again."
After ensuring Mrs. Gable and Lily were safely escorted into a secure corporate safe house under twenty-four-hour armed guard, Garrett walked back out to the street. His men had the two intruders zip-tied on the curb.
Garrett knelt down in front of the driver, pulling a burner phone from the man’s pocket. The last dialed number was still active on the screen. Garrett pressed the phone to his ear.
"Is it done?" Julian’s voice came through the speaker, sounding anxious and impatient. "Did you secure the leverage on Holloway? We need him out of the picture before tomorrow’s board meeting."
Garrett took a deep breath, his voice dripping with an icy promise of total destruction. "Julian. You made a critical mistake. You brought my daughter into this."
There was a sharp gasp on the other end of the line, followed by dead silence.

"Enjoy your remaining hours of freedom, Julian," Garrett whispered. "Because tomorrow morning, I am coming for you. And I don’t miss."
Garrett hung up the phone and turned to his men. "Load them up. We’re going back to the tower. It’s time to end this."
