Chapter 9 - The New Foundation

With Julian’s faction entirely purged from the company, a profound sense of peace and relief washed over Vance International. The board unanimously voted to reaffirm Eleanor’s absolute authority as CEO, and a public statement was issued completely clearing the company’s name and restoring investor confidence.
Two weeks after the boardroom showdown, Garrett stood in his old automotive restoration shop. The heat was finally fixed, roaring warmly through the massive garage vents. The shelves were fully stocked with high-end tools and rare parts, and a beautifully restored 1967 military Jeep stood glistening in the center of the bay.
Lily was sitting at a small desk in the corner, happily drawing pictures with a box of brand-new crayons, her laughter filling the warm room.
The bell above the shop door chimed, and Eleanor stepped inside, escorted by Marcus. She looked around the bustling, warm garage, a genuine smile gracing her lips.
"It seems you’ve been busy, Garrett," Eleanor said, walking over to inspect the classic Jeep. "The shop looks incredible."
"Thanks to you, Eleanor," Garrett said, wiping his hands on a rag and walking over to greet her. "The corporate loan cleared everything. I can finally do what I love without the constant fear of losing the roof over my daughter’s head. But I still owe you my time. I’ll be back at the tower for the evening security shift."
"Actually, Garrett, I’m here to change the terms of our contract," Eleanor said, her eyes twinkling with a warm, maternal affection.
Garrett raised an eyebrow. "Change them? Did I do something wrong?"
"You did everything right. Too right," Eleanor replied. "The security division is running like a Swiss watch. The new protocols are flawless, and Marcus here has stepped up to handle the daily operations beautifully under your training guidelines. You don’t belong behind a corporate desk twenty-four hours a day, Garrett. You belong here, with your daughter, building things with your hands."
She reached into her coat and pulled out a new legal document, placing it on the workbench.
"This is a joint-venture partnership agreement," Eleanor explained. "Vance International is establishing a new global logistics and specialized fleet division. We need an independent, highly secure facility to restore, maintain, and armor our executive vehicles worldwide. I am investing five million dollars to expand this shop into the primary tactical automotive hub for the entire conglomerate. You will be the Chief Executive Partner. You will run this facility, you will retain fifty percent ownership, and your salary will remain unchanged. You can work from here, be a full-time father to Lily, and remain my trusted advisor."
Garrett stared at the document, a profound wave of emotion washing over him. He looked at Lily, who was waving at him from her desk, and then back at Eleanor—the woman he had saved in a quiet diner, who had ultimately ended up saving his entire life.

"I don't know what to say," Garrett whispered, his voice cracking slightly.
"Don't say anything, Garrett," Eleanor said softly, placing a gentle hand on his arm. "Just sign the paper. You earned this. Every single bit of it."
