Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

One year later, on the anniversary of the night my life had supposedly ended, I stood on the back terrace of the Mercer estate, holding a walking, giggling one-year-old Lily by her tiny hands.
The sun was setting over the Pacific, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of gold, amber, and violet.
The wind blew gently off the water, carrying the scent of salt and pine. It was cold, but it didn't bite. It didn't threaten. It was simply the fresh air of a world I owned on my own terms.
My father’s company was thriving, our foundation had helped hundreds of women escape abusive situations, and my daughter was growing up surrounded by love, security, and truth.
Ethan was sitting in a federal prison cell six states away, eating bland food and reflecting on a life he had destroyed out of sheer arrogance.
Diane was scrubbing floors in a state correctional facility kitchen.
And Vanessa was learning the hard way that designer dresses and stolen money couldn't buy a soul.
I knelt down on the stone terrace, pulling Lily into a warm, fierce hug as she wrapped her tiny arms around my neck and giggled.
“You’ll always survive,” Ethan had mocked the night he shoved me into the snow, thinking it was a curse.
He was right. But he had forgotten the rest of the equation.
May you like
I didn't just survive.
I conquered.
