Chapter 5 - The Purge of Oakridge

"POLICE! HANDS ON YOUR HEADS!"
A dozen heavily armed SWAT officers burst into the Master Suite, their flashlights cutting through the darkness, weapons trained on Richard and his surviving mercenaries.
Within minutes, Richard Harrington and his wife, Evelyn, were forced to their knees, their arms bound behind their backs with heavy plastic zip-ties.
"You can't do this to me!" Richard screamed, thrashing against the officers' grip as he was hauled toward the doorway. "I am a Harrington! I own this city! My lawyers will have you all fired by morning!"
Detective Marcus, leading the state police detail, stepped up to Richard, holding up a digital recorder. "Richard Harrington, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, double homicide, illegal possession of class-A firearms, and attempted child murder. You have the right to remain silent."
Richard’s eyes flicked past the detective to where Clara and Lily were stepping out of the closet.
Lily clutched her golden button, her little face tucked safely against Clara’s neck. As Richard was dragged past her, Lily looked at him—not with fear, but with a deep, quiet innocence that cut through Richard’s madness like a blade.
"Goodbye, mean man," Lily whispered softly.
Richard froze for a second, his face twisting into a pathetic mask of ruin, before the officers slammed him against the wall and escorted him down the stairs.
By 4:00 AM, the estate had been completely secured.
Lady Margaret sat in the drawing room downstairs, wrapped in a warm wool blanket, drinking tea administered by the paramedics. Aside from minor bruising, she was unharmed.
Julian sat across from her, holding a tablet displaying the immediate legal filings.
"The court has granted an emergency freeze on all of Richard and Evelyn’s personal bank accounts," Julian reported softly. "Every asset they acquired using estate funds has been returned to the main trust. Their legal representation has already withdrawn after reviewing the audio recording."
Lady Margaret looked up, her tired eyes shining with a profound sense of peace. "And Arthur’s legacy?"
"It belongs entirely to Beatrice," Julian smiled, reaching out to pat the hand of little Lily, who was fast asleep on the sofa beside Clara. "She is the sole legal owner of the Harrington Group, Oakridge Manor, and all associated holdings."
Lady Margaret turned her gaze to Clara, the humble foster mother who had spent four years sacrificing her own comfort to protect a child she didn't know was royalty.
"Clara," Lady Margaret said softly, her voice filled with deep respect.
Clara looked up, nervous. "Yes, Lady Margaret?"
"You saved my granddaughter's life," the Dowager said, taking Clara’s rough, hardworking hands in both of her own. "You gave her love when she had nothing. You protected her when evil hunted her. This house is big... too big for an old woman and a small child."
Clara blinked, unsure of what she was hearing.

"I want you to stay here," Lady Margaret requested, tears welling in her eyes. "Not as a nurse, and not as a servant. As Beatrice’s mother. As a permanent member of the Harrington family."
Clara’s lips trembled. She looked at Lily sleeping peacefully on the sofa, then back at Lady Margaret, nodding slowly through her tears. "I would be honored, Lady Margaret. I love her with all my heart."
