Chapter 7 - Rebuilding the Legacy

One year after the trial, Oakridge Manor was no longer a cold, imposing fortress of secrets. It had been transformed into a place of light, music, and joy.
The heavy, dark velvet drapes in the grand halls had been replaced with bright linen curtains that let the golden sunlight stream across the marble floors. The gardens, once overgrown and neglected, were now filled with blooming red roses and manicured lawns where children’s laughter echoed daily.
Julian Vance had officially taken on the role of Trustee and Chairman of the Board for the Harrington Group, managing the multi-billion-dollar enterprise until Beatrice came of age. Under his leadership, the company shifted its focus toward philanthropic endeavors, clean energy, and orphan welfare programs.
On a warm afternoon in June, Julian walked up the front steps of the manor holding a leather portfolio containing the annual trust reports.
In the courtyard, Lady Margaret sat in a wicker armchair, sipping tea, her health remarkably restored by the joy of having her family whole again.
Beside her, Clara was sitting at a wooden painting easel, guiding five-year-old Beatrice as she painted a picture of the manor's grand fountain.
"Look, Uncle Julian!" Beatrice squealed happily, dropping her paintbrush and running across the lawn toward him, her small shoes clicking on the cobblestones.
Julian dropped to one knee, catching the little girl in his arms and lifting her high into the air as she giggled with pure delight.
"Look at you, little princess!" Julian laughed, setting her down gently. "You’ve grown two inches since last month!"
"Mommy Clara made me vegetable soup every day!" Beatrice announced proudly, holding up her hands.
Julian smiled, looking up at Clara, who walked over with a warm towel to wipe the little girl's paint-stained fingers. Over the past year, Clara had transformed from a timid foster mother into a confident, elegant woman who managed the estate’s charitable foundation with grace and sharp intelligence.
"How are the quarterly numbers looking, Julian?" Clara asked with a soft smile.
"Better than ever," Julian replied, pulling out a document. "The Beatrice Harrington Children's Hospital in downtown opened its doors yesterday. We’ve already admitted sixty children for free specialized surgeries."

Lady Margaret walked over, resting her hand on Julian’s shoulder. "Arthur and Victoria are watching from heaven, Julian. They are so proud of what you've done for their daughter."
"I only did what honor demanded, Lady Margaret," Julian said softly, looking at Beatrice, who had returned to her painting. "She is the heart of this family."
