Chapter 6 - THE MANHATTAN SIEGE

Thursday morning arrived under a dark, torrential downpour that blanketed New York City in grey fog. The glass tower of Vale Systems on Madison Avenue stood like a monolith against the storm, its top floors shrouded in clouds.

Inside the 50th-floor grand boardroom, the air was suffocatingly tense. All twelve members of the executive board of directors were seated around the thirty-foot mahogany table. At the center sat Julian Vance, wearing an impeccable charcoal suit, a look of quiet triumph gleaming in his eyes.

Beside him sat Victor Sterling and the legal representatives from Apex Global.

"It is 10:00 AM," Vance announced, looking at his gold Rolex watch. "Alexander Vale is not here. As per our corporate bylaws, if the Chief Executive Officer fails to present the verified federal compliance key for Project Iris by the designated hour, the board must vote on an immediate motion of emergency replacement."

"This is unprecedented, Julian," noted Eleanor Vance, an elder board member who had been loyal to Alexander’s late father. "Alexander has built this company from nothing. We owe him at least another hour to navigate the weather."

"The market doesn't wait for weather, Eleanor," Sterling interrupted harshly. "Apex Global has offered a cash infusion of eight billion dollars to acquire sixty percent of Vale Systems. If we delay, that offer is off the table. I move to vote immediately."

"Seconded," another board member chimed in.

"Very well," Vance smiled, raising his hand. "All those in favor of removing Alexander Vale as CEO and authorizing the Apex Global buyout—"

The heavy double doors at the back of the boardroom exploded open.

The loud impact echoed through the room like a gunshot. Every board member flinched, turning around in shock.

Standing in the doorway was Alexander Vale.

He was flanked not by lawyers or armed security guards, but by Clara Harper, Lucy, and twelve-year-old Matthew Vale, who wore a sharp, custom-tailored dark suit and walked with absolute, calm confidence beside his father.

"Put your hands down, Julian," Alexander said. His voice was not raised, but it carried a terrifying, icy weight that froze everyone in the room.

Vance’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second before recovering into a mask of smug arrogance. "Alexander. How dramatic. But you are late. And you are bringing children into a high-level corporate execution. This only proves what the board has been fearing—you have lost your sanity."

"I haven't lost my sanity, Julian," Alexander said, walking slowly down the center aisle of the boardroom, his son walking in perfect sync beside him. "I just finally opened my eyes."

"It doesn't matter," Sterling interjected, standing up. "Where is the verified encryption key for Project Iris? The federal inspectors are on the line right now. If you don't upload the clean key into the government server within five minutes, Project Iris is dead, and your company goes under!"

Alexander stood at the head of the table, looking directly at Vance. "My key was corrupted last night by an intruder who broke into my Greenwich estate."

A collective gasp rippled through the board members.

"Nonsense!" Vance scoffed, though a drop of cold sweat broke out along his hairline. "He’s fabricating excuses for his own technical failure!"

"The intruder's name is Marcus Kane," Alexander continued smoothly. "He is currently sitting in a holding cell at the Greenwich Police Department, charged with felony breaking and entering, industrial espionage, and attempted destruction of evidence. And his personal bank records show a two-hundred-thousand-dollar wire transfer made twelve hours ago from a shell company registered in the Cayman Islands—owned by you, Julian."

Vance’s face paled, but he laughed nervously. "That's a absurd lie! You have zero proof connecting me to Kane!"

"We don't just have proof, Mr. Vance," a small, clear voice echoed through the room.

It was Lucy.

She stepped forward, holding a tablet connected to the room’s massive 4K presentation screens. With a single swipe, the screens illuminated, broadcasting crystal-clear high-definition video and audio.

The video showed Vance standing in Alexander’s Greenwich study, secretly taking pictures of the safe code, planting the listening device, and violently threatening Clara Harper and Lucy.

"If you say a single word to Alexander... I will ensure your life—and your daughter's future—is completely destroyed..." Vance’s recorded voice echoed through the boardroom speakers with horrific clarity.

The boardroom erupted into chaos. Executive members stood up in outrage, pointing fingers at Vance. Sterling slunk back into his chair, trying to distance himself from the COO.

"This... this is illegal surveillance!" Vance screamed, his composure completely shattering as he pointed a trembling finger at Lucy. "This evidence is inadmissible! You let a housekeeper's brat wiretap my private communications!"

Matthew stepped out in front of Lucy, shielding her. He looked Vance dead in the eyes—without a shred of fear—and lifted his hands, signing with lightning-fast, powerful precision.

Alexander turned to the board, his voice ringing out with immense pride as he translated his son’s signs for the entire room:

"My son says: THE... TRUTH... DOES... NOT... NEED... A... MICROPHONE. IT... ONLY... NEEDS... PEOPLE... WHO... ARE... NOT... AFRAID... TO... LOOK."
