"Maya!" Alexander screamed, dropping his briefcase and sliding across the floor. He pulled her into his arms. Her tiny hands clutched at his expensive silk tie.

"Uncle... Alex..." she whispered, her eyes fluttering. "It hurts."

"I know, sweetie, I know. Hold on," he pleaded, his voice cracking. The machine, the unyielding billionaire, was completely gone. In his place was a desperate uncle weeping over his brother's child.

The paramedics rushed her to the hospital. For the next twelve hours, Maya was in emergency open-heart surgery. Alexander and a bandaged Maria sat side by side in the waiting room, holding hands. They didn't speak of money, shares, or corporations. They prayed for a little girl’s life.

During those agonizing hours, Alexander made a decision. He realized that his father’s legacy was a curse that had killed his brother and isolated him from the world. He was done letting the company dictate his life.

Maria collapsed into Alexander’s arms, weeping tears of pure relief.
