Chapter 6 - Confrontation at the Pier

The rain hammered against the corrugated metal roof of the abandoned shipping warehouse at Pier 42. It was a bleak, desolate part of the industrial district, far away from the glittering tech offices downtown.
Inside the dimly lit structure, Dr. Victor Vance stood nervously next to a leather suitcase, his expensive coat soaked with rain. Opposite him stood Arthur Pendelton, looking smug and victorious, flanked by two burly private security guards.
"You have the passport and the offshore routing numbers, Victor," Pendelton said, tossing a thick envelope onto a wooden crate between them. "The moment the Whitfield stock crashes tomorrow morning, the final wire transfer will clear. You’ll be a very rich man in a very tropical paradise."
"I just want to get out of here, Arthur," Dr. Vance said, his voice shaking as he grabbed the envelope. "Daniel Whitfield isn't a man you want to cross. If he finds out I was the one who altered the IVF logs three years ago—"
"He won't find out anything until he’s sitting in a federal prison cell," a cold, mocking voice echoed from the shadows near the entrance.
Pendelton froze. The two security guards immediately reached into their jackets for their firearms, but before their fingers could touch leather, the glass window above them shattered violently. Three red laser dots appeared on the chests of Pendelton and his guards.
Daniel Whitfield stepped out of the darkness, his trench coat soaked, his eyes gleaming with a terrifying, predatory calm. Behind him, four heavily armed members of his private security force moved in with tactical precision, disarming Pendelton's guards before they could even blink.
"Daniel," Pendelton hissed, his face twisting into a mask of pure hatred. "You’re a wanted man. The police are looking for you across the entire state. Walking in here is suicide."
"The police are currently executing a search warrant at your corporate headquarters, Arthur," Daniel replied calmly, pulling a sleek tablet from his pocket and turning the screen toward them. It displayed a live feed of federal agents carrying boxes of documents out of Pendelton Tech.
"What is this?" Pendelton gasped, his confidence suddenly evaporating.
"Did you really think I didn't have total counter-surveillance on your network?" Daniel laughed, a cold, humorless sound. "The moment your anonymous tip hit the SEC, my cyber-security division traced the digital watermark directly back to your private server. And while you were busy playing corporate mastermind, Marcus was securing a confession from your clinic’s chief database administrator. We have the original, uncorrupted IVF logs, Dr. Vance. The ones that prove you stole my daughter to cover up your clinical negligence."
Dr. Vance collapsed to his knees, his face entirely green with panic. "Arthur, you said we were safe! You said you had the judge paid off!"
"Shut up, you idiot!" Pendelton roared, taking a step back, but a laser dot instantly centered right between his eyes, freezing him in place.
"It’s over, Arthur," Daniel said, his voice dropping to a harsh, lethal whisper. "You tried to take my company. I could have forgiven that. But you tried to destroy my late wife's legacy, and you threatened my child. I am going to bury you so deep in legal ruin you won't see the sun for the next twenty years."
The heavy iron doors of the warehouse suddenly groaned open, and a dozen federal agents, led by the regional director of the FBI, poured into the room with weapons drawn.
"Arthur Pendelton, Dr. Victor Vance, hands where we can see them," the lead agent commanded.
Daniel stepped back into the shadows, watching calmly as his enemies were forced into the dirt and handcuffed in disgrace. As the agents led them away, the FBI director walked over to Daniel, offering a respectful nod.

"The evidence your team provided is airtight, Mr. Whitfield. The warrant against you has been officially rescinded. You’re a free man."
"Thank you, Agent," Daniel said, turning his back on the warehouse. "But I have somewhere else I need to be."
