Chapter 10 - A Voice for Forever

One year later.
The sun shone brightly over the grand gardens of the Whitmore-Drake Estate—a new sprawling property built on the coast of Lake Michigan, combining the beauty of the Whitmore heritage with the fortress-like security of Jaxson’s domain.
Hundreds of guests filled the white-canopied lawn overlooking the water: corporate executives, military veterans, security operatives, and local community leaders.
The sound of a harp echoed softly through the morning air.
At the front of the floral altar stood Jaxson Drake, wearing an sharp, custom black tuxedo, looking more regal and formidable than ever. Beside him stood Leo Vance as his best man, alongside four elite team members dressed in formal dress uniforms.
The harp music shifted into a majestic, sweeping wedding march.
The crowd stood up.
Walking down the aisle, wearing a small dark suit and a bright smile, was eight-year-old Liam, carrying a velvet ring pillow.
Beside him walked nine-year-old Layla.
She wore a stunning white flower-girl dress made of organza and silk, her dark hair styled in elegant waves adorned with tiny white jasmine blossoms. She walked with complete confidence, her brown eyes bright, her ears wide open to the sounds of the applause, the wind, and the ocean waves.
And then, walking down the aisle behind them, came Vanessa.
She was a vision of breathtaking, immortal beauty. Her white lace bridal gown cascaded down her figure in a sweeping train, her veil trailing softly behind her in the gentle lake breeze. On her hand, the blue diamond sparkled brilliant light under the sun.
Jaxson watched her approach, his heart beating with a ferocious, joyful rhythm that he had thought he would never feel again.
When Vanessa reached the altar, Jaxson stepped forward, taking her hands in his.
The minister smiled warmly at the couple and the gathered crowd.
"We are gathered here today," the minister began, "to unite two extraordinary souls who found light in the darkest corners of trial, and who proved that love is the strongest force on earth."
When the time came for the exchange of vows, Jaxson looked down into Vanessa’s eyes.
"Vanessa," Jaxson said, his voice ringing out clear and powerful across the quiet lawn. "One year ago, I was a man living in the shadows of my past. You brought me back to life. You showed me that real strength isn't just about fighting—it's about protecting the things that give life meaning. I vow to love you, honor you, and shield you and our children with my life, for as long as I draw breath."
Vanessa smiled through her tears, squeezing his hands tightly.
"Jaxson," Vanessa said, her voice filled with deep, unwavering devotion. "You saved my daughter when the world had abandoned her. You stood between us and the monsters, and you showed me what a true hero looks like. I give you my heart, my soul, and my entire future, forever."
The minister smiled. "And now, before we complete these holy vows, a special blessing from the bride's daughter."
Layla stepped forward from the side of the altar. She did not sign. She stood straight, holding a small wireless microphone in her small hands.
She looked up at Jaxson, then at her mother, and spoke into the microphone—her voice clear, beautiful, and completely devoid of fear:
"Thank you, Daddy Jaxson," Layla said, her words echoing across the silent, weeping crowd. "Thank you for giving me my voice. And thank you for giving us a home."
A collective sob of pure emotion swept through the guests. Vanessa wept openly, leaning against Jaxson’s chest, while Jaxson dropped to one knee, pulling Layla and Liam into a tight, fierce embrace.
"I love you, little bird," Jaxson whispered into Layla’s ear.
"I love you too, Daddy," Layla replied, hugging his neck tightly.
Jaxson stood back up, taking Vanessa into his arms.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared joyfully. "You may kiss the bride!"
Jaxson pulled Vanessa close, dipping her gently as he kissed her deeply, passionately, under the warm, golden sunlight of Lake Michigan.

The crowd erupted into thunderous, roaring applause as rose petals rained down from above.
Layla and Liam held hands, laughing happily as they ran through the rose petals, their voices ringing out across the water—a song of joy, of freedom, and of a family that could never be broken again.
