CHAPTER 5 — WHEN THE MASK FULLY FALLS

It took less than a day for everything to collapse.
Not emotionally.
Structurally.
Richard called security.
Then lawyers.
Then investigators.
Not because he was told to.
Because he finally believed.
Evidence surfaced quickly.
Too quickly.
Locked storage records.
Private messages.
Audio fragments the boys had accidentally triggered while hiding.
Victoria wasn’t just cruel.
She was systematic.
She had been isolating the boys emotionally.
Training them to fear speaking up.
And building a narrative where I was the “problem employee.”
Richard sat at his desk staring at the files.
His hands trembled slightly.
“I let her into my home,” he whispered.
I stood beside him.
“You trusted her,” I said quietly.
“That’s not the same as letting her win.”
He shook his head.
“It feels like it.”
From upstairs, laughter suddenly echoed.
The boys.
Playing.
For the first time that day.
Richard froze.
“Are they okay?”
I nodded.
“They feel safe again.”
That was when something shifted in him.
Not guilt.
May you like
Resolution.
“Then I need to make sure they stay safe,” he said.
