Chapter 10 - A Home Built on Love (The Final Chapter)

The wedding day arrived on a breathtaking Saturday in early autumn.

The ceremony took place on the sprawling grounds of the Mercer estate—the very place where Nia’s journey had begun in pain and confusion, now transformed into a paradise of white roses and golden autumn leaves.

Unlike the lavish, cold corporate galas Adrian used to throw, this wedding was intimate, filled with people who genuinely cared: estate staff, Nia’s family from Atlanta, close corporate allies, and university friends of Lucas.

In the dressing room, Lucas stood in front of the full-length mirror, nervously adjusting his tuxedo bowtie.

Adrian walked in, looking regal in a tailored black tuxedo. He walked up behind his son, gently taking over the adjustment of the tie.

"Dad," Lucas said softly, looking at their reflections. "I never got to properly thank you."

"For what, son?"

"For not giving up on me," Lucas whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "When I was throwing those tantrums, when I hurt Nia... you could have written me off. But you stayed."

Adrian placed his hands firmly on Lucas's shoulders. "You are my son, Lucas. Bringing Nia into this house was the best decision I ever made, but watching you become the man you are today is the greatest pride of my life."

The father and son embraced tightly—a moment of true, unbreakable bond.

Outside, the string quartet began to play a soft, romantic melody.

Guests took their seats. Lucas stood at the altar beside his father as the Best Man—a role he had proudly requested.

Then, the doors of the estate garden opened.

Nia stepped onto the aisle, accompanied by her uncle. She was mesmerizing. Her wedding dress was a masterpiece of simple, elegant lace, trailing behind her like a dream. Her dark hair was styled delicately, framed by a soft veil, and her deep brown eyes were fixed entirely on Adrian.

As she reached the altar, Adrian took her hand, his eyes shining with tears of absolute joy.

The minister smiled at the couple and the gathered guests. "We are gathered here today to unite two souls who found light in the darkest place, and love where it was least expected."

When the time came for the vows, Adrian spoke first, holding both of Nia's hands.

"Nia," Adrian said, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. "You entered my home during a storm, carrying nothing but your integrity and your courage. You healed my son's heart, you restored my soul, and you turned a cold house into a home filled with laughter. I promise to honor you, love you, protect you, and stand by your side for all the days of my life."

Nia smiled, tears of happiness spilling over her cheeks.

"Adrian," Nia spoke, her voice clear and sweet. "I thought my purpose here was just to rebuild my own life. I never imagined that in helping you heal your family, I would find my true home. You and Lucas gave me a purpose greater than my dreams. I promise to love you, respect you, build our future together, and never let you walk alone."

"By the power vested in me," the minister declared, smiling broadly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"

Adrian wrapped his arms around Nia, lifting her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss.

The crowd erupted into thunderous cheers and applause! Rose petals filled the air.

At the front row, Thomas Hale wiped a tear from his eye, clapping loudly alongside the rest of the mansion staff.

At the reception that evening, under a grand marquee lit by thousands of fairy lights, Lucas stood up with a microphone to give the Best Man's toast.

He raised his glass to the head table, looking at Adrian and Nia.

"Eight months ago," Lucas began, his voice echoing warmly through the room, "I was a spoiled, miserable kid who thought making people cry made me powerful. I made nine housekeepers quit. I made everyone's life a living nightmare."

The guests listened quietly, moved by his honesty.

"And then came Nia," Lucas smiled, looking at his new stepmother. "I tried to break her, but she was unbreakable. She didn't run away. She stayed, she called me out, she pushed me to be better, and she taught me what it means to be a real family. She saved my dad, and she saved me from becoming a monster."

Lucas raised his glass higher, his voice ringing with pure love.

"To my dad, who never gave up. And to my mom, Nia, who brought the sun back into our lives. May your love last forever!"

"To Adrian and Nia!" the room cheered in unison, clinking glasses.

Later that night, as the music played softly and guests danced under the stars, Adrian and Nia stood on the balcony overlooking the lake. Adrian wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, pulling her close against his chest as the cool autumn breeze brushed past them.

"Happy, Mrs. Mercer?" Adrian whispered softly into her ear.

Nia rested her head back against his shoulder, looking out at the calm, glittering water, her hand resting over his.

May you like

"More than happy, Adrian," Nia smiled warmly, feeling the complete, beautiful peace of her new life. "I'm finally home."
