Chapter 10 - THE FORTRESS OF LOVE

One year later.

The sun was setting over Chicago’s Gold Coast, casting a warm, golden glow across the manicured lawns and stone terraces of the Bellandi estate.

The heavy black iron gates were wide open. Children's laughter echoed from the gardens below, where old Mr. Alvarez was teaching Leo and Matteo how to plant red rose bushes along the terrace wall.

On the grand balcony overlooking the Pacific horizon, I sat in a wide teak armchair, wearing a comfortable cashmere sweater.

In my arms, wrapped in a soft pink wool blanket, slept our newborn daughter—Clara Amelia Bellandi.

Little Livia sat on a small wooden stool beside my chair, carefully brushing Miss Pearl’s fur, looking down at her baby sister with bright, proud eyes.

"Is she sleeping, Mommy?" Livia whispered softly.

"She is, sweetheart," I smiled, kissing the baby's soft, dark hair.

A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped gently around my shoulders from behind.

Dante leaned down, resting his chin against my head, looking down at our sleeping daughter and then at me. The cold, severe Don who had once terrified an entire city was completely gone, replaced by a man radiating profound peace and contentment.

"What are you thinking about, my love?" Dante asked softly, his thumb gently stroking my cheek.

I looked down at my hand resting on the balcony railing—the heavy ruby wedding ring glinting in the golden sunset. I thought about the cold rainy night two years ago when I had stood under a pharmacy awning with twenty-six dollars, broken, abandoned, and terrified of the future.

And then I looked at the grand mansion around me—filled with light, laughter, healthy children, and a love that no force on earth could ever break.

"I was thinking about the twenty-six dollars," I said softly, turning my head to kiss Dante’s cheek.

Dante smiled—a warm, breathtaking smile that reached his dark gray eyes.

"It was the best investment this house ever made," Dante whispered, pulling us close as the golden stars began to shine softly over our home.

The storm was over. The shadows were gone. And in the fortress built on blood and stone, love had finally won.
