Chapter 7 - THE CONCLAVE OF THE DON

Three days after the failed siege, the grand council chamber beneath the historic Bellandi chapel was filled with sixty regional bosses, syndicate lieutenants, and powerful mafia patriarchs from across the country.

The room was constructed of ancient dark stone, illuminated by high iron chandeliers and burning torches. At the center of the chamber stood the High Throne of the Bellandi Commission—a massive carved oak seat that had belonged to the family founders for over two centuries.

Sitting in the front row were the three children—Leo, Matteo, and Livia—dressed in pristine formal wear, flanked by Enzo and ten fully armed Bellandi guards.

Beside the throne stood Don Dante Bellandi, wearing his full ceremonial black suit and silver family seal ring.

And standing directly at his right hand was me.

I wore a magnificent ivory silk gown adorned with intricate gold embroidery, my hair styled with ancient Italian pearls—the traditional dress of the Bellandi Matriarch.

The senior patriarch of the council, an eighty-year-old man named Don Carmine, stepped forward holding the ancient brass staff of the syndicate.

"Members of the Commission," Don Carmine’s voice echoed off the ancient stone walls. "We gather tonight to certify the absolute authority of the Bellandi leadership. Under our ancient laws, a Don must demonstrate strength in war, wisdom in governance, and the loyalty of his bloodline."

Carmine looked toward the front row. "Signorino Leo Bellandi, step forward."

Six-year-old Leo stood up proudly, walking up the stone steps toward the altar. He showed no fear before the sixty dangerous men watching him.

"Leo," Carmine asked softly. "Does your father rule this house with honor?"

"He does," Leo declared loudly, his clear young voice filling the massive chamber.

"And who stands beside your father as the mother of this house?" Carmine asked.

Leo turned, looking up at me with bright, loving dark eyes. He reached out and took my hand.

"Evelyn Ward," Leo said proudly. "She protected us when the storm came. She drew the boxes when we were afraid. She is our mother."

A powerful, approving murmur rippled through the assembled mob bosses.

Don Carmine smiled, raising his brass staff high above his head.

"Then by the law of the Bellandi Commission, by the testimony of the heir, and by the choice of the Don," Carmine proclaimed, "I declare Dante Bellandi as the Supreme Don, and Evelyn Ward Bellandi as the Sovereign Matriarch of this city!"

The entire chamber burst into thunderous applause, sixty powerful men bowing their heads in unified submission to the new ruling couple.

Dante turned to me. Before the entire syndicate council, the fearsome Don dropped to one knee on the stone floor, pulling a stunning ring set with a glowing red ruby from his pocket.

"Evelyn," Dante said softly, his gray eyes shining with pure, undeniable devotion. "I brought you into this house to protect my children. But you saved my soul. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife—not by contract, but by love?"

Tears of pure happiness filled my eyes. I looked down at the man who had given me a home, a purpose, and a fierce, unshakeable love.

"Yes, Dante," I whispered, leaning down as he stood up. "Yes, a thousand times yes."

He pulled me into his arms, kissing me deeply while the applause of sixty bosses filled the ancient stone hall like thunder.
