Chapter 8 - REBUILDING FROM THE ASHES

With the criminal trial concluded and the perpetrators behind bars, the corporate board of Sterling Oil & Global Logistics held an extraordinary shareholders' meeting in Boston.
Under the terms of Arthur’s directive, Clara Hayes—acting as Leo’s legal guardian and executive proxy—assumed voting control over fifty-one percent of the company's shares.
Her first act as proxy was swift and revolutionary.
She ousted the remaining corrupt board members who had enabled Richard's tyranny, appointed Attorney Thomas Vance as Chairman of the Board, and officially transitioned thirty percent of the company's annual oil profits into The Arthur & Leo Sterling Foundation—a global non-profit organization dedicated to pediatric spinal research, free mobility equipment for underprivileged children, and advocacy for child abuse victims.
Meanwhile, the burned ruins of Sterling Manor near Newport were officially demolished under Clara’s orders.
Where the gloomy, cold brick fortress once stood, Clara and Leo commissioned the construction of The Sterling Haven—a bright, state-of-the-art residential rehabilitation center for children recovering from severe nerve injuries and trauma, surrounded by open gardens, oceanside parks, and accessible playing fields.
One sunny afternoon in September, Clara and Leo stood on the green cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, watching the construction crews lay the foundation for the new center.
Leo was twelve years old now.
Through intensive physical therapy at a specialized clinic in Boston, paired with high-tech custom robotic braces funded by his trust, Leo was able to stand upright and walk short distances with the aid of two light carbon-fiber crutches.
He looked taller, healthy, his cheeks rosy from the sea breeze, his eyes bright with life and laughter.

"It doesn't look like a fortress anymore, Clara," Leo said, looking at the open, sunlit construction site.
"No, sweetheart," Clara smiled, wrapping a warm arm around his shoulders. "It looks like a home."
