Chapter 9 - The New Beginning

I had finally taken over as Chairman of the Sterling Group.
It was a busy, demanding role, but it was mine. I was no longer an orphan; I was a matriarch. I had built a company, a home, and a future that belonged to me and my children.
I was sitting in my office one evening, looking out over the city skyline, when my grandfather walked in.
"You’ve done well, Jade," he said, placing a hand on my shoulder. "You’ve turned the house of cards into a fortress."

"It’s not just a fortress, Grandfather," I said. "It’s a home."
I thought about the ivory coat, the divorce papers, and the incubator. All of those things were the catalysts for the life I had now. I realized that the trauma of the past wasn't something that defined me; it was the foundation I had used to rise.
