Chapter 8 - The Renewal

Six months later.

The historic Moretti Estate in Hudson Valley had been fully restored to its former glory. The grand stone walls were lined with white climbing roses, the sprawling marble fountains flowed with crystal-clear water, and the vast gardens were lush, green, and vibrant under the bright May sunshine.

It was the day of our wedding.

Inside the grand bridal suite, I stood before a full-length mirror, taking in my reflection.

I wore an exquisite hand-embroidered white lace gown with a long, dramatic cathedral veil that swept across the polished hardwood floor. On my throat rested the restored Moretti diamond necklace, and pinned close to my heart was the silver rose pin Adrien’s father had kept for twenty years.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

"Come in," I called out gently.

Dr. Bell and Marco walked inside, both wearing crisp black tuxedos. Dr. Bell carried a small wooden box, while Marco held a massive bouquet of rare white peonies.

"You look stunning, Elena," Dr. Bell said, his old eyes shining with tears. "Your mother would be so proud of the woman you've become."

"Thank you, Dr. Bell," I smiled, stepping over to give the old doctor a gentle hug. "For everything. For saving my life that night in the bunker."

"I was just doing my job, child," he smiled, handing me the wooden box. "This was found in your father's vault during the estate restoration. It belongs to you now."

I opened the box. Inside was a handwritten letter from my mother, dated three days before the attack twenty years ago, along with a small gold key to a safety deposit box containing my family’s old personal photo albums.

I held the letter against my chest, feeling a deep, profound sense of closure washing over my heart. The painful shadows of my past were finally gone, replaced by the warm, enduring light of the present.

"It's time, Queen Lena," Marco said respectfully, bowing his head. "The Don is waiting at the altar."
