Chapter 3 - The Ghost of the Ledger

By 8:00 AM the next morning, Diego was standing inside the dusty, wood-paneled office of Notary Public Alejandro Silva—the oldest notary in the state, a man whose signature validated every major property transfer in San Miguel for half a century.

Alejandro adjusted his spectacles, looking over the digital recordings Diego had compiled, along with the corporate bank registries from Mendoza Logistics.

"Diego, my boy," Alejandro sighed, shaking his head. "When your father brought Brenda here to sign the updated will, he looked... distant. He wasn't the vibrant man I grew up with. But Brenda had a medical certificate from a private clinic stating he was of sound mind."

"That clinic was owned by Brenda’s cousin, Alejandro," Diego said, slamming a financial audit report onto the desk. "Look at the wire transfers. The moment my father signed that will, three million pesos were transferred from Mendoza Logistics into an offshore account in Belize listed under Brenda’s maiden name. This wasn't a marriage. It was a corporate assassination."

"If this is true, the will is not just invalid; it’s a instrument of federal fraud," Alejandro said, his eyes widening as he realized the scale of the deception. "But Brenda has already filed an emergency petition with the local judge to seize the keys to the house, claiming you are obstructing her lawful property rights."

"Let her file," Diego said, a cold, predatory smile touching his lips. "She thinks she’s playing a game of chess in a local court. She doesn't know I’ve already moved the board to the federal district level."
