Chapter 9 - The Promise at the Lighthouse

That evening, as the golden sunset painted the sky in shades of pink and violet over Casco Bay, Grant took Claire for a walk along the cliffside path leading to the estate's historic lighthouse.
Lily was happily playing under the watchful eye of her nanny in the estate garden below, her cheerful laughter drifting up on the sea breeze.
The ocean waves crashed gently against the rocky shore below. Grant and Claire walked side-by-side, their fingers intertwined.
"I remember when I first came to work here," Claire said softly, looking out at the endless water. "I was so scared, Grant. I was a widow with a baby, feeling completely alone in the world. I thought I would spend my whole life just trying to survive."
Grant stopped walking and turned to face her, holding both of her hands in his.
"You brought life back into this home, Claire," Grant said, his voice filled with deep tenderness. "Before you and Lily came into my life, I was living in a cold, hollow world. I had money, but I had no purpose. You restored my faith in people. You restored my heart."
Claire looked up at him, tears of happiness welling in her eyes. "Grant..."
Grant reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He dropped down to one knee on the grass, surrounded by blooming wildflowers under the coastal light.
He opened the box, revealing a stunning sapphire ring, surrounded by a halo of diamonds that sparkled like the ocean waters.
"Claire Bennett," Grant said, looking directly into her soul, "you and Lily saved my life, my home, and my heart. I don't want to spend another day of my life without you by my side. Will you marry me and let me be a father to Lily?"
Claire let out a breathless gasp, tears streaming down her smiling cheeks. She knelt down on the grass beside him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Yes! Oh, Grant, yes!" she cried out happily.
Grant pulled her close, kissing her deeply as the sunset bathed the lighthouse in a warm, triumphant golden glow.
