Chapter 2 - The Whispered Secret

Alessandro felt a cold, sharp rage ignite in his chest, but he kept his face completely motionless. In his world, showing emotion before having absolute proof was a death sentence.

"Cassian sends you tea?" Alessandro asked calmly.

"Yes," Sophia whispered, shivering under the thin blanket. "He... he said it was a special medicinal blend from his family's estate. He told me it would help with my migraines. He personally brings the tin to my room every Monday."

"Did anyone else know?"

"No," Sophia shook her head weakly. "He told me not to mention it to the kitchen staff... he said they would be jealous if they thought I was getting special treatment."

At that moment, little Emma stirred on the bed. She rubbed her eyes with her tiny fists, looked up at Alessandro, and leaned closer to his ear.

"Mr. Boss..." Emma whispered in her sweet, innocent voice.

Alessandro leaned down. "Yes, little one?"

Emma pointed her small finger toward the nightstand drawer. "The quiet man with the shiny shoes... he put bad powder in Mommy's tea cup when she was in the bathroom. I saw him from under the bed. He told me if I told anyone, he would take Mommy away forever."

The truth landed like a sledgehammer.

Cassian wasn't just poisoning Sophia—he had explicitly threatened a three-year-old child to keep his secret.

Alessandro stood up, his jaw clenched so tightly his muscles strained. He looked at Dr. Bianchi. "Get Sophia and Emma into a private, secure wing at St. Jude’s Hospital under assumed names. Station six of my most loyal guards outside their door. If anyone tries to enter without my personal clearance, shoot them."

"And Cassian?" Dr. Bianchi asked quietly.

"Cassian," Alessandro said, his voice dropping into pure darkness, "is about to learn what happens when you touch what belongs to my house."
