Chapter 10 - The Beginning

One year later.

The grand gardens of the Moretti estate were decorated with white orchids, floating lanterns, and velvet drapes.

Two hundred guests—former business associates, community leaders, bakery staff, and local neighbors—sat in the sunshine near the lake shore.

Standing at the altar under an arch of white roses was Adrian Moretti. He wore a crisp white tuxedo, his eyes fixed on the glass doors of the estate.

Beside him stood Nathan Cole, holding two gold rings.

The music changed to a majestic piano prelude.

The glass doors opened.

Elena walked down the white runner on the arm of her father, Thomas.

She was a vision of absolute beauty. Her custom ivory gown was designed specifically for her lush, gorgeous figure—a lace bodice, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a sweeping train that caught the autumn breeze.

As she reached the altar, Thomas placed her hand into Adrian’s.

"Take care of my girl, Adrian," Thomas said softly.

"With my life," Adrian promised.

The priest began the ceremony, but neither Adrian nor Elena heard much of the traditional speech. They were lost in each other’s eyes, their hands clasped tightly between them.

When it came time for the vows, Adrian spoke first.

He pulled a small piece of folded, slightly chewed paper from his pocket.

The guests chuckled as they recognized the tiny puppy tooth mark in the corner.

"Two years ago," Adrian said, his deep voice carrying across the silent garden, "I was a dead man walking through a silent house. I thought my life was meant to be lived in shadows and grief. Then a brave, beautiful woman chased a stray puppy into my office, sat in my chair, put on my glasses, and made me remember what it felt like to laugh."

Elena wiped a happy tear from her cheek, smiling radiantly.

"Elena," Adrian continued, his voice thick with emotion. "You didn't just break into my office. You broke into my heart. You healed my soul, restored my family, and brought light back to this home. I promise to love you, protect you, and honor you for all the days of my life."

Elena squeezed his hands, her voice soft and clear as she spoke her vows.

"Adrian, you showed me that true strength isn't about being cold or invincible. It's about having the courage to protect the people you love. You gave me a home, a future, and a love deeper than I ever dreamed existed. I am yours, forever."

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced with a smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Adrian didn't wait. He pulled Elena into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her with all the passion, love, and devotion in his soul.

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause and cheers.

Winston the terrier barked merrily from the front row, wearing a little black bow tie.

As they walked back up the aisle together, hand in hand, hand in hand, surrounded by sunshine, flowers, and the cheers of the people who loved them, Elena looked up at her husband.

"No regrets about chasing that puppy?" she whispered cheekily.

Adrian laughed—a rich, booming, joyous sound that echoed across the lake, filling the estate with a life that would never be buried again.

"Best decision you ever made, Mrs. Moretti," Adrian said, kissing her temple as they walked into their forever.
