Chapter 9 - The Truth Unmasked

Gabriel was held in the downtown federal detention center for thirty-six hours without bail.
Inside the estate, Marco had placed the mansion on absolute lockdown. No one was allowed in or out.
Emma didn't cry after the first hour. She didn't hide in her room.
She sat in the small library with Marco and Jonathan Hail, Gabriel's head legal counsel, staring at the terminal screen.
"The IP address was routed through this machine at 4:12 AM," Jonathan explained, rubbing his temples. "It used a master administrative key. Only Gabriel, Marco, and Victoria had that key."
"Victoria," Emma said instantly. "She set this up."
"Victoria was at her hotel downtown at 4:00 AM," Marco noted grimly. "We checked her cell tower logs. She has an airtight alibi."
Emma stood up and walked over to the hidden surveillance mirror above the fireplace.
"Show me the camera feed for this room at 4:00 AM," Emma demanded.
Marco tapped his tablet. "The camera feed for this room was wiped from 3:50 AM to 4:30 AM. That's why the feds think it was you—you were the only person logged into the house network during those hours."
Emma’s brown eyes narrowed. She closed her eyes, recalling every detail of her nights in the library.
"The wire," Emma whispered suddenly.
"What?" Marco asked.
"The storm two weeks ago," Emma said, turning around rapidly. "When the puppy got through the fence! The workers repaired the stone foundation, but they laid new fiber-optic cables along the east drainage wall to connect the outdoor security sensors!"
Marco froze. "The east wall drainage line connects directly to the old service junction under the kitchen pantry."
Without another word, Marco, Jonathan, and Emma ran down to the basement service room beneath the kitchen.
It was a cold, damp concrete room filled with old breaker boxes and exposed copper piping.
Marco pulled out his heavy tactical flashlight, sweeping the beam across the ceiling junction boxes.
Near the back wall, behind an old wooden wine rack, a small black box with a blinking red LED light was spliced directly into the estate's main fiber-optic trunk line.
"A physical tap," Marco growled, his face twisting in rage. "Installed from the outside through the drainage pipe. They didn't need your computer, Emma. They used your logged-in session to mask their own signal from the outside!"
Jonathan took out his phone, his hands shaking as he took photos of the physical tap. "This proves external hacking. It completely destroys the federal conspiracy charge against Gabriel and clears Emma entirely!"
Emma grabbed Marco’s arm. "Who owns the land on the other side of that east wall drainage pipe?"
Marco checked his tactical map on his phone. "It’s a vacant commercial lot owned by a holding company called Rosemont Logistics."
Jonathan gasped. "Rosemont Logistics is registered to Victoria Moretti’s eldest son."

The entire plot lay exposed in the cold basement light: Victoria had sold the access line to the Falcone family, framing Emma—the "maid" she despised—to destroy Gabriel's empire and claim guardianship of the children and the family fortune.
"Call the federal prosecutor," Emma said, her voice dropping into a hard, unbreakable line that sounded eerily like Gabriel's. "Get Gabriel home NOW."
