Chapter 6 - The Traitor Revealed

The silver music box sat on the center of Roman’s desk, its polished surface reflecting the flickering flames of the fireplace.
Noah stood between Claire and Roman, his small hand resting over the winding key on the back of the box.
"Turn it three times, Noah," Claire guided softly, resting her hands on the boy’s shoulders to keep him grounded.
Noah turned the key. Click. Click. Click.
The lid popped open automatically. Instead of a dancing ballerina or a tiny mirror, the interior contained a mechanical cylinder with numbered brass pins, along with a small, folded piece of parchment.
The music box began to play a slow, delicate melody—a lullaby that Isabella had sung to Noah every night of his early childhood.
As the music played, Roman picked up the parchment and unfolded it. On it were five musical notes written in Isabella’s hand: C-3, G-4, E-2, A-5, D-1.
"The piano sequence," Roman murmured.
He pulled out his satellite laptop, connected the encrypted USB drive, and typed the corresponding numerical code into the biometric security prompt: 3-7-2-6-1.
The screen flashed red for one second. Then green.
ACCESS GRANTED.
A massive directory of files opened on the screen. Audio recordings, bank ledgers, and surveillance video files dated from four years ago up to the present week.
Roman clicked on the primary audio file labeled Vance_Contact_01.
The speakers on the laptop crackled to life. A harsh, raspy voice with a thick Chicago accent echoed through the silent study—Dominic Vance.
"Are the security routes for the port finalized?" Vance’s voice asked.
A second voice answered—a deep, familiar voice that made Roman, Frank, and every security guard in the room freeze in absolute shock.
"The routes are clear. Roman trusts me implicitly. He thinks I’m managing his outer perimeter, but my men are already stationed at the Newark terminal. Once you take out the boy, Roman will be too shattered to respond."
Claire looked at Roman.
The Don’s face had gone completely white. His hand hovered over the desk, shaking with a cold, terrifying fury.
The voice on the recording belonged to Frank.
The man who had served as Roman’s chief of security for fifteen years. The man who stood six feet away in the doorway, holding a loaded firearm.
The quiet in the study shattered instantly.
Before anyone could move, Frank’s hand flashed toward his holster. He pulled his weapon, aiming it straight at Roman’s head.
"Nobody move!" Frank barked, his face contorting into a desperate, feral sneer. "Don't touch that laptop, Boss!"
Claire acted on instinct. She shoved Noah behind her body, backing toward the heavy leather sofa, placing herself directly between the armed traitor and the child.
Roman didn't flinch. He didn't draw a weapon. He slowly stood up to his full six-foot-two height, stepping out from behind his desk, walking directly into the line of fire until the barrel of Frank’s gun was six inches from his chest.
"Fifteen years, Frank," Roman said. His voice wasn't loud. It was a terrifying, hollow whisper that carried more power than a gunshot. "I brought you into my house. I paid for your daughter's cancer treatments. I made you a wealthy man."
"You made yourself a king, Roman!" Frank spat, his hand trembling on the grip of the pistol. "And left the rest of us to take the bullets! Vance offered me fifty million dollars and a seat at the table in Chicago! You were soft—you let your wife soft-talk you out of expanding into drug operations!"
"My wife saw what you were three years ago," Roman said coldly, taking another half-step forward, pressing his chest directly against the cold steel of the gun. "And she laid a trap for you that took three years to sprung."
Frank’s eyes flashed with panic. "Back off, Roman! I swear to God I’ll put a bullet through you and take the kid to Vance myself!"
"Look behind you, Frank," Roman said softly.
Frank’s eyes flickered for a fraction of a second toward the floor-to-ceiling windows behind him.
CRASH!
The reinforced glass exploded inward in a shower of black shards. Two armored figures in tactical gear swung through the window on ropes, slamming Frank to the floor before he could pull the trigger.

A third figure stepped through the ruined window frame—a tall, broad-shouldered man in a navy tactical vest bearing the seal of the United States Marshals Service.
"Frank Miller," the Marshal announced, stepping over the groaning traitor on the floor. "You're under arrest for federal conspiracy, racketeering, and the murder of Isabella DeLuca."
