Chapter 9 - The Final Stand in the Garden

Upstairs, Khloe locked the heavy oak door of the guest suite just as Arthur had instructed. She pulled Lily into the windowless walk-in closet, wrapping her arms around the trembling child while outside, the night echoed with the terrifying sounds of urban warfare.

"Is Papa going to be okay?" Lily sobbed, her hands clamped over her ears.

"Yes," Khloe said fiercely, though her own heart was hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. "Your papa is the strongest man in the world. He’s going to protect us."

Down in the grand foyer, Arthur moved through the shadows like an avenging ghost. He had shed his suit jacket, rolling up his white shirt sleeves to reveal forearms corded with muscle and old battle scars.

He didn't just fight; he systematically dismantled the Morozov strike team.

One by one, the Russian mercenaries who tried to breach the staircase found themselves staring down the barrel of Arthur’s pistol. He was cold, calculating, and terrifyingly efficient.

Then, heavy footsteps echoed from the front doorway.

Viktor Morozov stepped into the ruined foyer, holding an assault rifle, a cruel, mocking grin plastered across his scarred face.

"Well, well, well," Viktor laughed, his voice bouncing off the marble pillars. "Arthur Castellano! Playing hero in your own little castle! Where is the girl? Where is Elena’s daughter? Hand her over, Arthur, and maybe I’ll let you die quickly!"

Arthur stepped out from behind a marble pillar at the top of the landing, his pistol locked dead center on Viktor’s forehead.

"You stepped foot on my property, Viktor," Arthur said, his voice dropping into a register so chillingly quiet that it made the mercenaries below freeze in their tracks. "You threatened my daughter. And you disturbed my family."

"Your family is dead, Arthur!" Viktor sneered, raising his rifle. "Sophia is gone, and—"

BANG!

Arthur’s bullet caught Viktor square in the shoulder, spinning the Russian syndicate boss around and sending his rifle clattering across the marble floor.

Before Viktor could recover, Silas and three surviving guards swarmed him from behind, slamming him face-first onto the ground and slapping heavy steel zip-ties around his wrists.

Arthur walked slowly down the stairs, stepping over shattered glass and splintered wood. He stood over Viktor, looking down at his lifelong enemy with absolute contempt.

"Silas," Arthur said coldly. "Pack him and his men into the transport vans. Deliver them to federal authorities with a complete file on their trafficking operations. And make sure the prosecutor knows I want them buried under the maximum sentence."

"Done, Boss," Silas nodded, hauling Viktor to his feet by his collar.

The mansion slowly grew quiet, save for the hum of the emergency generators and the steady patter of the rain outside.
