Chapter 9 - The Day of New Commitments

The transition from a underworld king to a legitimate corporate executive concluded on a beautiful, snowy morning in mid-December. The courthouse in downtown Chicago was quiet, the reporters completely unaware that Callum Voss had entered the building through the private judicial garage.

Inside the private chambers of Judge Evelyn Vance, Callum and Iris stood before the heavy mahogany desk, their hands joined tightly between them. Wren sat on Marcus’s lap in the front spectator row, her small face serious as she watched her parents.

"By the power vested in me by the state of Illinois," Judge Vance said, her voice warm as she signed the official documentation, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. And furthermore, I have approved the legal petition for the name change. The child will officially be registered as Wren Eleanor Voss."

Callum turned to face his wife, his gray eyes shining with a profound, unshakeable depth of emotion that had been buried for three long years. He reached out, his thumb gently smoothing a happy tear from Iris’s cheek before he leaned down to press his lips against hers in a slow, sweet, and deeply reverent kiss that sealed the past permanently.

"We did it, Iris," he whispered against her hair as the family gathered around them for a quiet embrace.

"We did," she smiled, her arms locking around his neck. "We brought our daughter home."
