Chapter 6 - The Siege

The basement level of Harbor Children's Hospital was a labyrinth of concrete corridors, steam pipes, and roaring electrical generators.
The red emergency lights cast long, sinister shadows against the walls as six heavily armed enforcers loyal to Dominic Moretti moved through the corridors, their tactical boots crunching over shattered glass.
At the head of the group was Dominic Moretti himself—a thick-set man in his late fifties with cold grey hair and a face hardened by decades of brutality.
"Find the girl, and find Orsini!" Dominic hissed to his men. "If we get Thomas Hartley's ledger, the federal case dies! Shoot anyone who gets in the way!"
"Looking for me, Dominic?"
The deep, resonant voice echoed through the dimly lit hallway from everywhere and nowhere at once.
Dominic froze, his men spinning around, weapons raised toward the shadows. "Orsini! Come out into the light, you coward! You think you can hide behind federal prosecutors?"
A shadow detached itself from the doorway of the generator room. Raphael stepped out into the red light, holding a silenced pistol casually at his side. He looked calm, almost bored, though his eyes carried a lethal intensity that made Moretti’s men take an involuntary step back.
"I didn't hide eleven years ago when you murdered my sister, Dominic," Raphael said, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. "And I'm certainly not hiding tonight."
Dominic sneered, raising his gun. "Your sister was a casualty of war, Raphael. Just like that maid and her pathetic little brother are about to be."
"That was your final mistake," Raphael said softly.
Raphael raised his hand and snapped his fingers.
Instantly, the heavy steel security doors at both ends of the basement corridor slammed shut with a deafening CLANG, electronic locks engaging automatically.
Dominic’s men panicked, turning toward the blocked exits.
From the ventilation shafts above, tear gas canisters dropped into the corridor, bursting with thick, white clouds of blinding smoke.
Coughing and screams erupted as Gideon Marsh and the Orsini tactical team struck from the darkness. Muffled gunfire echoed through the subterranean level—thwip, thwip, thwip. One by one, Dominic’s enforcers dropped to the floor, disarmed and neutralized before they could even locate their targets.
Dominic stumbled through the thick smoke, coughing violently, dropping his weapon as he reached for the emergency exit handle, but the door wouldn't budge.
A heavy, leather-clad hand reached through the smoke, grabbing Dominic by the throat and slamming him violently against the concrete wall.
The smoke parted to reveal Raphael, completely unaffected, his face dark and imposing.
"It’s over, Dominic," Raphael whispered, pressing the cold barrel of his pistol against Moretti’s temple. "Your men are dead or captured. The federal agents are waiting upstairs. And Thomas Hartley's ledger is already sitting on the grand jury prosecutor's desk."
Dominic choked, his face turning red under Raphael’s iron grip. "You... you think you've won? You ruined your life for a maid..."
May you like
"She isn't a maid," Raphael said, his voice chillingly absolute. "She is the woman I love. And you are going to spend the rest of your miserable life in a maximum-security cell thinking about what happens when you touch what belongs to Raphael Orsini."
Raphael brought the butt of his heavy pistol down across Dominic’s jaw, knocking the mob boss unconscious onto the cold floor just as federal agents breached the security doors.
