Chapter 8 - The Transformation

Three months later, the Orsini estate was bathed in the golden warmth of late summer.
The third floor of the grand mansion—once a dark, off-limits sanctuary reserved only for Raphael’s quiet isolation—had been completely transformed. The heavy blackout curtains had been replaced with flowing white linen that let the sunlight flood into every corner. Books, flowers, and children’s toys now sat on the mahogany shelves.
Wyatt, now fully recovered and bursting with energy, was running across the expansive green lawns below, kicking a soccer ball with Gideon Marsh, who had surprisingly proved to be a remarkably patient coach.
Inside the third-floor study, Josephine sat at a massive oak desk opposite Julian Vance—Raphael’s legal representative. She wore a tailored cream-colored dress, her dark hair styled elegantly, looking every bit the poised, confident woman she had always been beneath her fears.
"These are the final trust documents, Josephine," Julian explained, handing her a leather-bound folder. "Raphael has transferred thirty percent of the Orsini Real Estate Holdings into an irrevocable trust for Wyatt’s education and medical care. Furthermore, your father’s name has been officially cleared by the Department of Justice."
Josephine looked at the documents, her eyes shining with soft tears. "He didn't have to do all this."
"He wanted to," a deep voice spoke from the doorway.
Raphael stood there, leaning against the doorframe, wearing an unbuttoned dark shirt, his eyes fixed entirely on Josephine.
Julian smiled, standing up and packing his briefcase. "I'll leave you two to review the rest. Good afternoon."
As Julian exited, closing the heavy oak doors behind him, Raphael walked over to the desk. He leaned down, placing his hands on the armrests of Josephine’s chair, trapping her gently within his reach.
"Are you happy with the trust arrangements?" he asked softly, his face inches from hers.
"Raphael, you're spoiling him," Josephine smiled, reaching up to adjust the collar of his shirt. "He asked Gideon for a pony yesterday."
"Gideon already bought the pony," Raphael admitted with a faint smirk. "It arrives on Tuesday."
Josephine let out a beautiful, musical laugh that filled the room—a sound that Raphael had come to treasure more than any fortune he possessed.
"You're soft, Raphael Orsini," she teased gently. "The whole underworld thinks you're a monster, but you're just a pushover for an eight-year-old boy."

"I am only soft for two people in this world," Raphael replied, his tone shifting into something deep, passionate, and raw. "And one of them is sitting in front of me."
He leaned down, pressing his lips to hers in a slow, deep kiss that made Josephine’s breath catch in her throat. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer, giving herself over completely to the feeling of absolute safety and love she found in his arms.
