Chapter 9 - Shadows Laid to Rest

That evening, a special ceremony took place in the private chapel on the eastern edge of the Orsini grounds—a small stone building overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Raphael stood near the altar, holding a single red rose. Beside him stood Josephine, holding his hand tightly.
On the marble altar sat a small, beautiful portrait of Clara Orsini—Raphael’s younger sister—surrounded by glowing candles.
For eleven years, Raphael had avoided this chapel. It had been a monument to his greatest regret, a reminder of the phone call at 12:43 A.M. that he had ignored.
Raphael stepped forward, placing the red rose beside his sister’s photograph.
"I brought her home, Clara," Raphael whispered into the quiet chapel, his voice thick with emotion. "I saved them."
Josephine squeezed his hand, stepping beside him, resting her head against his shoulder. "She knows, Raphael. She knows you kept your promise."
Raphael looked down at Josephine, taking her face in both of his hands. "Eleven years ago, I thought my life ended in this room. But when you knocked on my door three months ago, you gave me a second chance. I am never letting you go, Josephine."

"You don't ever have to," she whispered, tears of joy reflecting the candlelight in her eyes. "I'm right where I belong."
They stood together in the quiet sanctuary, the ghosts of the past finally laid to rest, replaced by the warm, living promise of the future.
