Chapter 7 - The Master Stroke

As I reached the center of the ballroom, the crowd parted in terrified silence. The sheer aura of dark authority radiating from me was enough to quiet the room within seconds.
I stepped onto the platform, standing beside Marcus. He flinched slightly as I drew near, but held his chin up, trying to maintain his courageous facade.
"Marcus," I said smoothly into the second microphone on the podium. "You always were terrible at timing."
"The evidence is clear, Luca!" Marcus snapped into his mic. "You can't talk your way out of this!"
"I don't need to talk," I replied calmly. "Because I brought someone who can speak for me."
I signaled to the head of my private security team standing near the rear balcony.
The double doors opened once more.
Walking into the ballroom, dressed in an elegant navy blue dress, her dark hair styled beautifully, was Sarah Brooks. Walking beside her, holding her hand, was Assistant United States Attorney Eleanor Vance—my father’s estranged sister and one of the most feared federal prosecutors in the country.
The color instantly drained from Marcus’s face. Harland’s jaw dropped open in absolute horror.
Prosecutor Vance walked up to the stage, taking a microphone from a staff member.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Prosecutor Vance’s sharp, authoritative voice echoed through the ballroom. "For the past forty-eight hours, the United States Attorney’s Office has been conducting a joint investigation with federal forensic accountants into Vance Global."
She turned her stern gaze directly onto Marcus and Harland.
"We have uncovered a massive, multi-million-dollar wire fraud scheme," Prosecutor Vance declared. "Arthur Harland, operating under the direct instruction of Marcus Vance, has been embezzling corporate funds, extorting domestic employees, and selling confidential shipping logistics to the Moretti organized crime syndicate."
The room erupted into shocked gasps.
"Furthermore," Prosecutor Vance continued, holding up a thick red folder, "we have sworn testimony from Mrs. Sarah Brooks, along with four other former estate employees, detailing eleven years of systemic human rights violations, wage theft, and blackmail orchestrated by Marcus Vance and Arthur Harland."
She looked at the two armed Federal Marshals waiting in the doorway. "Agents, arrest Marcus Vance and Arthur Harland."
The Marshals moved swiftly onto the stage.
"No! Wait! This is a mistake! Luca set me up!" Marcus screamed hysterically as steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists. "Luca! You can't do this to your own brother!"
"You aren't my brother, Marcus," I said coldly, looking down at him as he was dragged away in front of two hundred wealthy investors. "You're just a leech who picked the wrong host."
Harland broke down completely, sobbing as he was led out of the ballroom in shame.

I turned back to the crowd of stunned investors and board members.
"The gala is over," I announced flatly into the microphone. "Please enjoy the food on your way out."
