Three months later, the Federal District Courthouse in downtown Chicago was surrounded by hundreds of media trucks, satellite dishes, and reporters from across the globe.
The trial of The United States v. Julian Vance & Aegis Holdings had captivated the nation.
Inside the packed courtroom, the evidence presented was so absolute, so meticulously documented by Mara Ellis’s late mother and verified by federal forensic teams, that the defense had completely collapsed within four days.
Julian Vance, sitting at the defense table in an orange prison jumpsuit and a heavy wrist cast, was sentenced by the presiding Federal Judge to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
Isabella Rossi, having pled guilty to conspiracy charges, was sentenced to twenty-five years in a high-security facility.
Vince Rossi’s assets in the United States were permanently seized under the RICO act and transferred directly into the Lucia & Clara Valente Foundation to support pediatric care and crime victims across the Midwest.
As Roman, Mara, and Sophia walked down the wide granite steps of the courthouse into the bright afternoon sunshine, dozens of reporters pushed forward with microphones.
"Mr. Valente! Mr. Valente!" a reporter shouted. "What does this verdict mean for the Valente empire?"
Roman stopped on the steps. He wore a crisp dark suit, holding six-year-old Sophia in his left arm. He reached out with his right hand, pulling Mara close to his side, their fingers firmly laced together.

"There is no Valente empire," Roman announced clearly, his voice carrying across the crowd. "There is only the Valente family. And today, the truth has set us free."
He turned away from the cameras, ignoring the flashing lights, and led his family toward their waiting car.
