Chapter 8 - The Legacy of Domenico

That afternoon, Damiano walked alone down to the quiet, wooded knoll overlooking the Hudson River where his father was buried.
The sun was setting behind the Catskill Mountains, casting long, purple shadows across the quiet water. The granite headstone bore a simple inscription:

Damiano knelt down beside the grave, resting his hand against the cold stone.
He pulled his father’s silver pocket watch from his coat pocket. He opened the casing, listening to the steady, rhythmic tick-tick-tick of the Swiss movement.
"It took me twenty years to find the truth, Father," Damiano said softly to the wind. "I thought you died because you were weak. I thought peace was a lie."
He looked back up toward the grand stone mansion sitting on the hill above.
Through the tall glass windows of the sunroom, he could see Emma standing near the table, setting out dinner plates. He could see Lily running through the grass with Marco and Enzo, who were taking turns throwing a small red ball for her to catch, their booming laughter carrying across the quiet lawn.

Damiano carefully wound the watch, closed the silver casing with a sharp, decisive click, and placed it back into his pocket—not as a burden of vengeance, but as a reminder of a promise kept.
