Chapter 9 - The Final Reckoning
Three months later, the dust had finally settled over the Vance-Crestmont empire.
The trial of the century concluded with swift, brutal justice. Victoria was sentenced to twenty-five years in a federal maximum-security prison for corporate espionage, grand larceny, and attempted murder. Because she was a foreign operative, her assets worldwide were seized by the federal government.
Julian pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping, violation of a restraining order, and financial fraud. Due to his cooperation in exposing Thomas Sterling’s global network, and Evelyn’s personal request for leniency regarding his final act of protection, he was sentenced to twelve years, with no possibility of parole for the first eight.
With Victoria’s testimony and the encrypted data recovered from the warehouse, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in cooperation with international authorities, froze all of Thomas Sterling’s assets in Hong Kong and Europe. Within forty-eight hours, Sterling’s logistics empire collapsed into bankruptcy, and a warrant for his arrest was issued by Interpol, permanently neutralizing the old enemy of the Vance family.
Crestmont Holdings was officially dissolved and merged into Vance International.
Evelyn was officially named the new Chief Executive Officer of the unified conglomerate. The press conference announcing her appointment was held in the grand auditorium of the Vance Tower, filled to capacity with international journalists, shareholders, and industry leaders.
Evelyn stood at the podium, looking elegant and powerful in a pristine white suit. Her father sat in the front row, a proud smile on his face, holding Lily on his lap.
"For too long, this company was driven by short-term greed and personal ambition," Evelyn spoke clearly into the microphones, her voice echoing with absolute authority. "Today, Vance International returns to its core values: innovation, integrity, and responsibility. We are not just building financial portfolios; we are building a legacy for the next generation."
The auditorium erupted into thunderous applause. Shareholders cheered, recognizing that under Evelyn’s leadership, the company’s stock had already jumped thirty percent in pre-market trading.
After the conference, Evelyn walked back to her private office on the top floor. The large floor-to-ceiling windows offered a breathtaking view of the entire city. The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden glow across the skyline.
Arthur walked in, leaning lightly on his cane, carrying Lily. "You did beautifully, Evelyn. The board is completely unified behind you."

Arthur chuckled, tapping his cane. "I may have been asleep, my dear, but a tiger never truly leaves his cubs unprotected. The Vance family is whole again. That’s all that matters."
