Chapter 6 - The Unraveling of Claudia
Stripped of her luxury SUV, evicted from the North Oak estate, and cut off completely from the Whitaker fortune, Claudia retreated to her sister's small two-bedroom apartment in the suburbs.
Without the endless stream of money to fund her lifestyle, her true nature began to tear her remaining relationships apart.
It was 9:00 PM on a rainy Thursday when Mark arrived at the apartment, carrying a single duffel bag containing his clothes. His face was hollow, his eyes sunken from days of panic and shame.
"Where is the money, Mark?" Claudia demanded the moment he walked through the door, not even offering him a seat. "Your lawyer called! He said your father froze your personal trust! How am I supposed to pay my legal bills?!"
Mark set his duffel bag on the floor, looking at his wife as if seeing her clearly for the very first time.
"There is no money, Claudia," Mark said, his voice completely flat. "I signed over my shares. I surrendered the house. The company is seizing everything."
Claudia stared at him, her face twisting into a hideous mask of disgust. "You idiot! You weak, useless bastard! You let that old man take everything from us?!"
"From me," Mark corrected, his voice rising slightly. "He took it from me because I stole it for you! Because every time I tried to say no, you threatened to leave me! You made me leave my own son outside in the freezing cold because he spilled milk on your carpet!"
"He's a stupid, clumsy brat!" Claudia shrieked, taking a step toward him. "He deserved it! And you deserve to rot in the gutter!"
Mark looked at her, the last embers of his foolish obsession burning out completely. "My father was right about you. You're a parasite."

"Get out!" Claudia screamed, throwing a ceramic mug at his head, which shattered against the wall behind him. "Get out of my sister's house! You're broke! You're nothing!"
Mark turned without another word, picked up his duffel bag, and walked out into the pouring rain, leaving Claudia screaming curses into the dark hallway.
