Chapter 10 - The Sun Always Rises

The sun began to set over the Thorne estate, painting the sky in vibrant shades of gold, pink, and deep violet.

After a long day of celebration, the house was quiet. In the nursery, little Leo was fast asleep in his hand-carved mahogany crib, snuggled tightly against a plush bear, his chest rising and falling in deep, peaceful rhythm.

Brenley stood by the nursery window, looking out at the gardens.

A soft shadow fell beside her as Rourke stepped into the room, carrying two glasses of sparkling cider. He handed one to Brenley and leaned against the window frame beside her.

"Leo's out cold," Rourke whispered with a quiet smile. "Running around for five hours finally caught up with him."

"He had the time of his life," Brenley whispered back, taking a sip of her drink. "Thank you, Dad. For everything."

"You don't ever have to thank me, Brenley," Rourke said, his voice filled with deep, quiet emotion. "When your mother passed, I thought my world had ended. The only thing that kept me going was knowing I had to protect you. For a while... I thought I lost my way. I let you suffer because I was too focused on business and building an empire."

"Dad, you saved me," Brenley turned to him, putting her hand gently on his arm. "You walked into that house when I was on my knees, and you picked me up. You gave me back my life."

Rourke looked at his daughter, seeing the fierce, beautiful, independent woman she had become. The scared, quiet girl who had married Carter Vance was gone forever, replaced by a leader, a mother, and a true Thorne.

"We built an empire, Brenley," Rourke said, raising his glass toward the setting sun. "Not out of steel or logistics... but out of family."

"To family," Brenley toasted, clinking her glass against his.

They stood together by the window, watching the stars begin to twinkle over the peaceful estate. Inside the warm, beautiful home, there were no secrets, no cruelty, and no fear—only the unshakable bond of a father and daughter who had faced the storm together and come out victorious on the other side.

The water that had once tried to drown Brenley had only served to wash away the dust of her past, allowing the true iron inside her to shine brighter than ever before.
