Chapter 10 - The Garden of Roses

Six months later.

Spring had arrived in Westchester County. The grounds of the Bedford estate were a breathtaking sea of blooming red roses, vibrant green lawns, and singing birds.

The sun shone brightly from a clear blue sky, casting a golden light over the rear terrace where a grand wrought-iron gazebo had been decorated with white ribbons, pink orchids, and crystal chandeliers.

Over two hundred guests filled the white-draped seating area—business leaders, hospital staff, local charity directors, and members of Gabriel’s security team dressed in sharp formal attire.

At the front of the altar stood Gabriel Romano.

He looked breathtaking in a bespoke dark navy tuxedo, his silver-touched hair styled perfectly, his posture commanding, his gray eyes shining with an absolute, radiant joy. Beside him stood Frank as his best man, holding two gold wedding bands.

The harpist began to play a soft, romantic melody.

The crowd stood up in unison.

Walking down the rose-petaled aisle was four-year-old Lily Bennett. She wore a precious white lace flower-girl dress, a wreath of small pink roses in her dark curls, and was proudly carrying a basket of rose petals, scattering them with great enthusiasm.

Behind her came Claire.

She took everyone’s breath away.

Claire wore a breathtaking gown of ivory silk and delicate French lace, cascading to the floor like liquid moonlight. Her dark hair was styled in a soft, elegant updo, her eyes shining with tears of pure, unadulterated happiness.

As she reached the gazebo, Gabriel stepped forward, taking her hand in his broad, warm grip. He lifted her hand to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss onto her knuckles before turning to face the minister.

"Friends and family," the minister began, his voice warm and clear. "We are gathered here today to unite two remarkable souls in holy matrimony—souls that found each other not in ease, but through courage, truth, and unconditional love."

The minister smiled at the couple. "Gabriel and Claire have prepared their own vows."

Gabriel turned to face Claire fully, taking both of her hands in his. He looked deep into her eyes.

"Claire," Gabriel said, his deep voice trembling slightly with emotion. "Ten years ago, I locked my heart in a dark room and threw away the key. I believed I was destined to live in cold silence. Then you and Lily walked into my home."

He reached up, his thumb gently wiping a happy tear from her cheek.

"You healed a broken man. You brought warmth back into these halls, and you gave me the greatest gift a man could ever ask for: a reason to live, to laugh, and to love again. I vow today, before God and everyone here, to protect you, cherish you, honor you, and spend every remaining day of my life making sure you and Lily know how deeply you are loved."

Claire smiled through her tears, squeezing his hands tightly.

"Gabriel," Claire whispered, her voice ringing clear across the sunny garden. "When I first came to this house, I was exhausted, scared, and alone. I thought I had to carry the whole world on my shoulders. But you showed me what a real man looks like. You didn't just give us a safe home—you gave us your heart."

She looked at him with absolute devotion.

"You are my protector, my best friend, and the love of my life. I give you my heart, my future, and my life, forever."

The minister smiled, lifting his hands. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife! Gabriel, you may kiss your bride!"

Gabriel pulled Claire into his arms, dipping her back slightly as he brought his lips down onto hers in a passionate, breathtaking kiss that sealed their lives together forever.

The entire crowd erupted into a thunderous standing ovation, cheers and applause echoing across the estate.

When Gabriel brought Claire back upright, four-year-old Lily ran up to them, tugging on Gabriel’s jacket.

"Mr. Gabriel!" Lily giggled loudly. "Are you my real daddy now?!"

Gabriel dropped to his knees, picking up his new daughter into his broad arms, pulling Claire close into his side.

He looked down at Lily, his gray eyes overflowing with pure, unyielding love.

"Yes, Lily," Gabriel whispered, kissing her cheek. "I am your real daddy. Forever and ever."

And there, beneath the warm spring sun, surrounded by roses, laughter, and the people who loved them, the former mafia boss, his beautiful wife, and their precious daughter stood together—leaving the dark shadows of the past far behind, and stepping boldly into a brilliant, beautiful future filled with eternal love.
