Chapter 9 - The Iron Throne

The retaliation was swift, silent, and absolute.
Before the sun rose over New York the following morning, the rogue elements of the Valenti family and their mercenary allies had been entirely eradicated. There were no news stories, no public shootouts, and no collateral damage. Dante Marino moved through the city's underbelly like a scythe through dry grass, wiping away every threat that had dared to put a mark on Clara’s life.
By noon, the remaining heads of the Five Families were summoned to the Oyster Bay estate.
They gathered in the grand dining hall, sitting along a massive mahogany table under the watchful eyes of forty armed Marino guards. At the head of the table sat Dante, dressed in a sharp black suit, his expression as cold and unyielding as a marble statue.
Sitting directly at his right hand was Clara. Beside her sat Rosa, calm and serene.
"You were all summoned here today for one reason," Dante began, his voice echoing in the vast room like a bell tolling in an empty cathedral. "To understand the new law of this city."
He stood up, resting his hands on the table, leaning forward until every capo in the room felt the weight of his gaze.
"For decades, the Commission operated on fear, betrayal, and short-term greed," Dante said. "That era is over. The Marino family now holds eighty percent of the distribution networks, the docks, and the political connections in the tri-state area. We are no longer a coalition; we are a kingdom."
He turned his gaze toward Clara, his eyes softening instantly as he took her hand in his.
"This woman saved my mother’s life. She exposed the traitors in your ranks. And she showed me that a ruler who cannot protect the innocent is nothing more than a thief with a gun," Dante continued, looking back at the assembled bosses. "From this day forward, any action against the Hughes Foundation, or any threat against Clara Marino, will be treated as an act of war against the entire Commission. Is that understood?"
May you like
The bosses looked at one another, seeing the overwhelming force assembled around them, and the unbreakable bond between the king and the woman beside him. One by one, they bowed their heads.
"Understood, Don Marino," old capo Moretti spoke for them all, rising slightly to offer a formal salute. "Long live the King."
