Chapter 3 - Shadows in Miami

Two weeks passed. To the media, Mrs. Claire Moreland had taken a quiet, private retreat following the birth of her child. But within the underworld, rumors were spreading like wildfire. The formidable Damian Moreland had lost his wife and heir, and his armor was showing cracks.

In Miami, Sabrina Cole sat in a high-end restaurant, nursing a martini. A dark-suited man sat across from her—Julian Vance, Damian’s chief rival in Southern Florida.

"He's distracted, Sabrina," Julian said with a sly smile. "He’s spending millions every day on private investigators, hacking networks, and threatening federal agents. He isn't paying attention to the harbor concessions."

"Damian isn't weak, Julian," Sabrina warned, though her tone held a edge of bitterness. "He barely looks at me now. Ever since she vanished, he treats me like a ghost."

"Because you were just a tool to him," Julian sneered. "And now that his precious wife has left him, his empire is vulnerable. Find out where his primary ledger is kept. If we take his financial backing, he won't have the resources to keep searching for her."

Sabrina remained silent, her mind racing. She had played her hand poorly. She thought she could replace Claire, but she had underestimated the deep, toxic obsession Damian had for his wife.

Meanwhile, in Vermont, Claire was adapting to a life of quiet simplicity. Her days were consumed by feed schedules, soft lullabies, and recovery. For the first time in nearly a decade, she didn't have to watch over her shoulder for rival family threats or endure cold, lonely nights in a mansion built of glass and steel.

Yet, a small part of her remained vigilant. She knew Damian. He was not a man who accepted loss. He was a predator who tracked what was his until the ends of the earth.
