Chapter 10 - The Garden of Renewal

Two years later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the lush, green gardens of the Rossi estate in Lake Forest. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming red roses and fresh ocean breeze from Lake Michigan.

On the stone patio overlooking the lawn, a large wooden table was set for a family lunch.

Isabella Rossi sat at the head of the table, looking radiant, healthy, and happy, watching nineteen-year-old Evan—who had just been accepted into the pre-law program at Northwestern University—showing her his new laptop setup.

Near the rose garden, Chloe stood in a soft yellow sundress, holding a six-month-old baby girl with dark, soft curls and striking gold-flecked hazel eyes.

Little Isabella Rossi.

Vincent walked out from the glass doors of the conservatory, wearing a simple white linen shirt and dark trousers, completely free of his dark overcoats and tense posture.

He walked over to his wife and daughter, a look of pure, unadulterated peace lighting up his handsome face.

He reached out, taking the baby gently into his broad arms, kissing her tiny forehead before pulling Chloe close to his side with his free arm.

"She has your eyes, you know," Vincent murmured softly, looking at his daughter, then looking down at Chloe.

"And she has your stubborn jaw," Chloe laughed softly, pressing her head against his shoulder.

"Good," Vincent smiled, kissing Chloe’s lips warmly. "She'll need it to run this family one day."

They walked together toward the patio table, where Isabella was waving them over with a plate of fresh veal piccata—extra lemon—and fresh bread.

Chloe looked up at the warm sun, at her bright, thriving brother, at the loving mother-in-law who treated her like a true daughter, and finally at the powerful, devoted man walking beside her, holding their child with absolute tenderness.

The four bullets that had pierced her body on a rain-slicked diner floor had brought her pain, fear, and blood. But they had also brought her to the love of her life—a love that had built a fortress around her heart, transformed a syndicate into a family, and turned a tragedy into a forever.

As they sat down together under the clear blue sky, laughing and sharing food, Chloe took Vincent’s hand under the table, their platinum rings catching the golden sunlight.

The ledgers were closed. The guns were silent. And their story was just beginning.
