Chapter 10 - A New Dawn at Ashford House

Six months later.

The dark clouds that had hung over Ashford House for decades were finally gone, replaced by the brilliant, warm sunlight of early summer.

Under Gabriel’s leadership, the Ashford organization had successfully transitioned into a legitimate, multi-billion-dollar international logistics and maritime shipping enterprise. Margaret and Delaney were serving long prison sentences, and the criminal elements of the old empire were completely dismantled.

St. Gabriel’s Chapel had been renovated. The dark, eerie atmosphere was replaced with beautiful stained-glass windows depicting light, hope, and protection.

In the sunlit gardens of the estate, five-year-old Lucy was running across the lush green lawn, laughing as she chased a golden retriever puppy.

Evelyn sat on a white wrought-iron bench, dressed not in a maid’s uniform, but in an elegant navy dress. She was now the Chief Director of Household Operations and Security for the entire Ashford estate, earning a high salary and complete independence.

Gabriel walked down the garden path, holding two glasses of iced tea. He sat beside her, handing her a glass with a warm smile.

"Lucy seems to like her new puppy," Gabriel said softly, watching the little girl play.

"She loves him," Evelyn smiled, looking at Gabriel. "And she still tells everyone that bells ask questions."

Gabriel chuckled softly, taking her hand gently in his. His grip was warm, strong, and protective.

"You saved my life, Evelyn," Gabriel said, his eyes filled with deep, sincere affection. "You listened when everyone else pretended to be deaf. You brought truth back to this house."

"I was just doing my job, Mr. Ashford," Evelyn teased gently.

"It's Gabriel," he corrected her with a soft laugh, pulling her closer to his side. "And your job now is to build a future with me... one built on truth, safety, and respect."

Evelyn rested her head against his shoulder, feeling the steady, strong rhythm of his heartbeat.

The dark whispers beneath the chapel floor were gone forever, replaced by the laughter of her child, the warmth of the summer sun, and the bright promise of a brand-new life.
