Chapter 4 - The Secret Ally

Evelyn hesitated, assessing the man before her. In the mafia world, trusting the wrong person meant a bullet in the dark. But she couldn't pull off a rescue alone.
"He's under the chapel," Evelyn whispered. "The storm shelter is flooding. Margaret locked him in."
Sam didn't look surprised; his eyes filled with cold disgust. "That greedy old viper. Gabriel was going to audit the family accounts this week. He found out Margaret and Marcus Delaney were embezzling tens of millions through fake shipping contracts."
"Can we open the primary vault door from the study?" Evelyn asked.
"Not without the master key card Margaret keeps around her neck," Sam replied, shaking his head. "And her personal guards are standing right outside the door."
"What about the drainage sluice?"
Sam paused, contemplating the idea. "The sluice gate at the lake is rusted shut. It hasn't been opened in thirty years. If we try to force it from the outside without a mechanical winch, the pressure will collapse the tunnel walls and drown him instantly."
"Then we need to buy time," Evelyn said, her eyes flashing with sharp intelligence. "We need to delay Margaret’s vote upstairs and get that master key card."

"How?" Sam asked.
Evelyn looked down at tag seventeen in her hand. "By making the dead bell ring again... in front of every captain in that room."
